In 2015 we stumbled across the Double S Killpen Facebook page. The horses are owned by Thompson Feedlot & Thompson Horse Sales. We spoke with Tara Sanders who told us she is the girlfriend of Jacob Thompson and that Jacob's father was the killer buyer.

We had not ever done business with anyone like this before, but fell in love with a registered APHA mare. I called and spoke with Tara by phone after viewing the videos of the mare being ridden. She answered all questions including was this a recent video so that we could see the condition the horse was in, was she sound when ridden (she appeared so in the video), did she have any injuries that could not be seen in the video, did they have the papers and signed transfer in hand, etc... Everything seemed to be in order and she was very convincing everything was great and she had the horse's best interest at heart. 

She encouraged us to pay her "bail" right then and requested it paid by Paypal using Friends and Family. I was not sure what that option was, but did as she asked and sent payment. Within 4 days she had me set up with a transporter, had me phone in payment to the vet for Health Certificate to ship, microchip, etc... We were excited for her arrival!

When the transporter showed up (2 days behind schedule) the horse looked nothing like the horse in the pic. If it were not for her facial markings and leg markings I would have thought that the transporter had switched horses. On a scale of 1-10 for body condition she was barely a 2, the transporter was given no APHA paperwork (when we called Jacob said he and Tara had split and she had them...when I got ahold of her she said he had them...we never recevied them), the had deep lacerations from bites and kicks from the lot...it was shocking to say the least.

Hard lesson and expensive lesson to learn. And by them advising me to use Friends & Family with Paypal I could file no claim. 

After all of this happened I did the research I should have done in the first place. The internet is a wealth of knowledge, but I found out too late.
