I filed single with no dependents, only worked half of last year, and my school credits. After finding out that the total to file my taxes was $732, I immediately decided to withdraw my services and go elsewhere. The tax preparer would NOT give my W2, information and school credits information back. Because of a lot of illegal stuff I seen with my own two eyes taking place, I contacted the IRS. I was told because I was filing school credits, they could not file my tax refund until 2/14, so if I wanted my papers back they should give them to me. If not, I was told to go to another tax preparer to file just my W2 that way my social would already be in the system and when they try to file, it would come back rejected. I filed on a Saturday near closing (2/9). I requested my information back, 2/9 and 2/10. I contacted the IRS 2/11.
I filed with Jackson Hewitt and they nice lady told me she would call me if they came back rejected. SHE CALLED! After thinking about it for a few minutes. I realized that the only way for TAX NATION to file my taxes were if they separated my W2 from my school credits. <<<RED FLAG!
I spoke with the CEO of TAX NATION. He could not answer any of my questions, was very rude and very unprofessional. When he called me (notice I said he called me) I started asking questions, his response, "Its late". And hurried me off the phone. He called the preparer who lied and said I came and told her to split my taxes up. WHY IN THE HELL WOULD I PAY $732 FOR YOU TO FILE MY W2 WHERE I PROBABLY WASN'T GETTING $300 OFF OF...THEN TURN AROUND AND PAY PROBABLY $732 AGAIN FOR THEM TO AMEND THEM?? I contacted the IRS AGAIN!
This time, I filed a legal complaint against them and is currently waiting for them to launched the investigation.
This isn't nearly all of the story! I'm currently searching for TAX lawyers to speak with. After talking to a police, he told me I just might have a good case in civil court. So yes, I'm pursuing a lawsuit.

Go the IRS website - they have links to free online filing companies. It is simple and easy. These companies are crooks and cons - there are no CPAs on the payroll and want to screw you for every dollar you have. In honesty, the ONLY people who should be able to charge that kind of fee are those who degreed and licensed by the State (CPAs).

Google Mo Money Taxes in Memphis Tn.
These guys started a tax business and gained the trust of the black community and suddenly they hiked all the fees. People were paying several hundred dollars to over a thousand dollars to do basic tax forms. I learned how to do my taxes myself and I do them every year. It really isn't that hard. I itemize as well as I have a home so my tax form is a little more complicated than the standard 1040. Not much though. I just add an extra form.
However, in the black communities especially you have to be VERY careful. These guys are trying to all get rich and a tax business is not suppose to be the kind of business you do to get rich. But this is what black people are making it into. To charge someone several hundred dollars for a basic tax form (Standard 1040) which is what you are filing is OBSCENE.
I hate crooks. I deplore these people. You keep calling the IRS but really this is out of the IRS hands. There are MILLIONS of fraudulent tax companies out there or unscrupulous tax companies out there. Unless these folks have thousands of complaints the IRS won't get involved. It is a CIVIL MATTER.
I am not sure what you can do. It is your word against theres. You can try to sue them for your money back but again that would be difficult as it is your word against theirs. They got over on you.
Learn to do your own taxes. It only takes about 15 minutes. And wait the extra couple of weeks to get your check instead of paying a company several hundred dollars. Or go to where the IRS or others are doing the taxes for free. There are several organizations that meet at the libraries and they do the taxes for FREE.
