Back in 2003, I accepted an offer to work for the Bank of New York in the Corporate Trust department located in East Syracuse, NY. As I started, I was fortunate enough to have a wonderful trainer to teach me my new responsibilities. I truly enjoyed coming to work and be challenged on a daily basis. Plus my trainer was a God-send and was patient and through trainer.

For some stupid reason, my 2 managers at the time called me in for a meeting stating that someone from another unit is leaving for medical reasons and I will be transferred over there to fill her spot. Being the cooperative person, I was willing to pitch in when needed. About 2-3 weeks later, I officially moved over to my new section and received what would be the start of much negativity and rudeness.

Two older ladies (Frick and Frack) were widely known to stick together (do virtually everything together and let no one in.) It was joked by other co-workers that they were joined at the hip. What I didn't know was just how connected to other people (senior managers, etc.) they were. It seemed they had inside information on what was happening and new procedures that were not formally introduced. Also, they were the ones who were training me and let me tell you...I was not trained throughly at all. And their negative obnoxious attitude didn't help matters. Even when I broached my managers, there was no corrective action taken. My work quality was being scrutinized, but they got away with the awful treatment they dished out. I won't bore you with details or various instances of their rudeness...I already documented them and forwarded them to the senior managers on my last day (I resigned because of the nonsense.)I just wanted to pass along what I learned the hard way.

It was so sad and stressful to work in an environment where the Company's Code of Conduct stated that "all employees must be treated fairly and with respect regardless of...." and these women were able to harass and create a hostile work environment for me while my work quality was being questioned(that's not fair treatment.) There is no equality in the Corporate Trust department of the Bank of New York. For some reason, I was pigeon holed and received disciplinary action (written warnings) for every burp and fart, while these women were unpunished for terrorizing me for no apparent reason. While working there, I was in a very hostile work environment (my last month working there, I was barely talking to Frick and Frack.)I was also very stressed, not sleeping well and came to the point of crying at my desk on a couple of occasions. One day I came into work and couldn't even make it to 10 o'clock, I was so under pressure. My stomach was in knots and I was in tears. Why didn't management catch on to my earlier queries and move me is still a mystery.

Since I left, quite a number of people have left the Corporate Trust unit. In fact 2 unit managers have left...they were sick of the games and the duplicity that we all encountered while employed there. In fact the VP of Human Resources located in NY also left under mysterious circumstances. If a VP from HR left, you know something was wrong. He actually stated in a meeting that "The Bank of New York is not an employee friendly organization." What does that tell you?? I still keep in touch with my former co-workers and they inform me that the same old crap is going on.

If you want to avoid any un-needed or un-deserved stress, please do not apply nor express any interest in The Bank of New York in East Syracuse...you will thank me for it later.
