I had enough funds to have a house built loan free. The first contractor I hired did a poor job and stole several items, so I was forced to borrow money from a bank. The 2nd contractor happened to be friends with the 1st, and the 1st one talked the 2nd one into quitting before finishing my house.
I went to Citizens and asked to borrow $10,000 to finish the house so I could sell the house and get out of debt and start over. They had several experts with years of experience to look at my house, and insisted that it would cost $35,000 to finish including landscaping which would help sell the house. Robert Griner verbally agreed to finish the house, which was almost finished, for the $35,000. He gave me his word he would make sure no one would cheat or rob me, as their bank also had some unhappy experiences with the 1st contractor I had hired. When time lapsed and the house was still not finished I came by and asked how things were going, what had been spent so far, and why it was taking so long. Mr. Griner told me to "zip my lip and let the men handle it." It made him furious when I asked for copies of original receipts from businesses they had hired. He told me at that time they had spent $16,000. Three weeks later he called and said they had spent all of the $35,000 and I needed to borrow $22,000 more to get the house finished. I told him to remember that he said for me to keep my mouth shut and let the men handle things, and they had, so the answer was NO. Then they had the owner of the bank, Bill Perry call me, and want me to come to his office. He told me that HIS men would have to finish the house and that he would loan no money for anyone else to finish it. When I pointed out terrible mathmatical errors that his men had already made on a list they had given me [without proof of costs] of what they had spent for various things, he promised they would correct it, and not make any more such errors. Then he met me out at my house, with his employees. I had hoped when he saw how they had started the driveway, and not finished it, started painting [walls that had already been completely painted--they didn't like the color], installed the septic tank, but not set the toilets into place, etc. that surely he would make them correct things. He didn't. They charged me for some things as though they were completed, when they weren't--such as the painting. They also charged me $5700 for a back porch roof and a 10' x 10' little slab of cement over my back door which is still proped up with nothing but 2 two x fours. Instead of making his employees do the right thing, Mr. Perry, owner, tried to blackmail me into borrowing more money--$22,000 more when they knew I only made $3,000 that year.  He said "If you don't borrow the $22,000 and let my men finish this house, I will take it away from you. I will find a way to foreclose on you." He has since denied he said that, but the facts speak for themselves. I have the copy of a letter from them I received a few weeks later saying that my insurance they had been adding to my loan on this unfinished house was ending on Jan. 06, 2011, and if I didn't get insurance on the house by Jan. 5, 2011 they would foreclose on me. I got insurance thinking I would have someone else to finish the house--which lacks very little being completed.  The man was tied up with a long project and couldn't work on the house, then my mother came down with terminal cancer.  I was not able to do anything about the matter. They emailed my insurance man and told him to drop my insurance, although it was paid up. Then, they sent me a notice that they were foreclosing on me because I didn't have "proper insurance" and that my house would be auctioned off on June 7, 2011. This was done purely out of spite and revenge because I wouldn't bow down to Bill Perry and go even deeper in debt when they hadn't kept their word in the first place. The balloon note is due June 17, 2011, so the only reason they threatened to auction it off on June 7, 2011 was for spite. The FDIC who is investigating them, and the HOPE NOW program stopped them from auctioning it off. The Citizen's Bank had also insisted on putting this on a balloon note when I had asked for a mortgage. I am told this is no longer legal.  This is how they prey on defenseless women. The first thing their worker, Anthony Weeks, did when they began working on my property was to steal 2 temporary poles I had on the property, worth $300 total. Only when I threatened to get the sheriff he agreed to pay me for them, and I did receive payment for them.  Their reply to the FDIC about breaking banking laws was to tell notorious lies, slander my good name with their assumptions and lies, and discuss everything but the illegal activities they were guilty of. Mr. Robert Griner still has the key to my front door, although they stopped working on my property in November, 2011 and has still refused to return it, making ridiculous excuses as to why he is keeping it in their response to FDIC's investigation.  No one wants to defend me against Bill Perry as he was once an attorney [I'm told he lost his license because of unetical actions], and has a lot of influence and throws his weight around in this rural area and its surrounding counties. Can anyone help me with this matter? I have put $135,000 of my own money into this property, a house of 1980 sq feet of heated space, and 3.64 acres of land which was supposed to be a home to bring my child up in. The house was begun in 2004, and now 7 years later I am still in this nightmare.  It's not right for a billionare, such as Bill Perry, to take advantage of a poor woman and child and take everything we have in this world. Especially since his men never once investigated when the building was taking place when I had borrowed money to see if things were being done right. If they had, I wouldn't be where I am today. This was my first experience in having a house built and it's been horrific.  The first thing they did in their letter to the FDIC was to mention that I sued Harvey's Grocery store and built the house with that money. Yes I did. I had a fall that permanently damaged my left leg, and caused me to be unable to perform part of the jobs I normally would do in the line of work I've had. All I had asked was that they pay my medical bills, and they refused, so I had no choice. This is none of the Citizen's Bank's business, but it is well known that the Perrys and Harveys used to be the closest of friends, so in my personal opinion this remark leaves it wide open for one to put 2 and 2 together in their motives as to their treatment of me.
