I lost all my income, had to move in with a friend and explained my situation to my car insurance company, as I could no longer afford to keep my car.

Instead of working with me, they demand large, unreasonable fees they won't explain and know I can't afford.
I've never missed a payment, been late, had a claim, been in an accident, ect.

This was my first car and the only insurance company I've ever dealt with. They're rude, unreasonable and demanding without explanation. It's 2 weeks before Christmas and now I not only have to sell my car, but see if I can sell it in time to prevent them charging me 'service fees' for not having all the money they want. (My insurance, at most, was $102.32, the average payment is $97.44.. now they want either $206.78 or $344.34 though they won't explain why or why I wasn't told about said fees previously.

They take their payments directly from my account and won't let me stop the one in January even though I've told them repeatedly that I don't have anything.. not even enough to buy food for Christmas.

Without my car I cannot take my war veteran boyfriend to his medical appointments, nor will I be able to fight for access to my daughter in family court -- a major loss that they are trying to make me PAY for!?

Living without the car and losing everything that I will without the car.. I see no reason I should have to pay their fees when I was never told about them prior. They had time before I had to move to notify me that this would happen, I have asked them to explain, they won't.. I would be living in my car if I could keep it on the road and it wasn't winter in Canada, but as is.. it's too cold and I wouldn't have had an address for them to send me paperwork, ect.

The lady I deal with said, "Well unfortunately we are going to have to rerate your policy and will increase your rates substantially as previous discussed.  I will work on your file and adjust your monthly payment accordingly."  -- This was NEVER discussed with me.. I was blindsided by it two weeks before Christmas, like it wasn't stressful enough. I keep asking for an explaination and have yet to get one.

I thought insurance was to insure against loss, damages, ect.. not to create a major loss for me and harass me about money I don't have even though I was trying to work with them.

Hi Ally – On behalf of The Co-opertors, we are truly sorry for the extenuating circumstances that you have endured over the last while. Auto insurance is a highly regulated product by the Government and there are several factors that determine auto insurance rates. Upon internal investigation, we noted there were significant changes to your policy that we cannot disclose in a public forum to protect your privacy. The Perth agency acted with integrity and accountability to ensure everything was communicated and reflected in your policy & premium. We understand this may not have been the most desirable time to advise you of the premium impact, but rest assured that we acted accordingly to requirements imposed by Government regulation. We believe that complaint resolution is important, and it is incumbent upon us to respond to concerns accurately and with the utmost courtesy. If there is anything else we can do to work through this with you, please let us know.

Here is a quick link explaining what drives auto insurance rates: http://www.cooperators.ca/en/Answer-Centre/why-do-premiums-change/what-drives-your-auto-insurance.aspx

Thank you – Paulina | The Co-operators
