I live in the Windermere, Fl area and 3 year's ago heard about this great school. This school was catorigized as a private learning institution. The school was remarkable. I enrolled my son into the school and due to the bad economy and falling out of banking institutions, I had to disenroll him from the CRENSHAW SCHOOL IN WINTER GARDEN. I was informed by BRENDA CRENSHAW that the school would be located in a perminate location in Windermere the following school year. My son enrolled into the CRENSHAW SCHOOL in October of 2006. I drove my son everyday to this school from STRD 535 and Reams Rd and also picked him up since the school did not provide any transportation service's. Alot of family's told me that 2-3 years prior to my sons enrollment that Mrs Crenshaw was insisting she had a location for the school, and would not be renting space from Windermere Community Church. The following year she moved the school to the address that is now the CRENSHAW SCHOOL, only to find out they are renting space from another church. When I found out she would not be starting construction of the new school I was in conference with Brenda Crenshaw and I said, " I would be taking out my son from the school. since she has not yet started construction. Permits are public information and Mrs Crenshaw insisted she was pulling permits and construction would start in a month, well time went by and now permits, no construction. That is not my problem, Brenda Crenshaw in formed she would REFUND MY DEPOSIT FOR THE COMING YEAR. And time has gone by like all of the parent waiting for permits, and I still have not received my refund from the school.
PLEASE READ THE EMAILS SENT TO MY WIFE FROM BRENDA CRENSHAW.
Hope you are having a nice summer. I have been out-of-the-office for a couple of weeks, but was told that your husband had left a very demanding message. I'm sure it was in regards to the deposit. Even though it is a non-refundable, due to our not being in the building, I told him I would return it. I will certain do this when our tuition comes in for the fall. Those deposits were used to order books and apply to various bills having to do with the fall set-up.
In a couple of weeks, we should receive our August tuitions. I will immediately refund your deposit as I said I would. I normally do not do this, but I gave your husband my word and will honor it.
Hope Tommy does well in his new school.
Thanks,
Brenda

Dear Vicki,
I have been out for over two weeks due to a critically ill son. I've only popped in the office for an hour or two. I received a call from your husband this morning referring to the $1000. I told him due to the economy, we cannot refund the $1000. As in many businesses, due to the money crunch, we lost students this year. We do have a signed paper from him that states that the deposit is non-refundable. My intentions were to refund it, but we had losses also causing the funds to not be there for a refund. I also answer to a board and they are not approving it.
I am very sorry things have worked out like they have.
Sincerely
Brenda Crenshaw
Well just because the economy went bad, I don't have a problem paying my bills. But as usual Brenda Crenshaw has passed the Buck, and probably told another inaccurate statement to another parent who had no problem paying the monthly tutition to the CRENSHAW SCHOOL. She has personal problems, She can't pay her bills, She can't keep her word. Will she open another school or will the Crenshaw School just be a preppy home school. I have filed SMALL CLAIMS AGAINST THIS INDIVIDUAL AND WILL SEEK PROPER COMPENSATION.

Crenshaw School is a great place for my kid

I am so sorry you left Crenshaw feeling so upset and angry, but as a fellow 7 grade mother I feel I need to set the record straight for anyone else who happens to read your negative reviews that you have decided to post.
I love Crenshaw school and my kid is very happy here along with the other 140 kids that attend. It has a small warm caring environment and everyone knows everyone else very well. The kids are taught to be kind and considerate to one another and it is very sad that this was not a good fit for your family.
We do have a teacher’s kid in our class but the rest of us are regular families that choose to volunteer a few hours a week. I am guessing that is what you are implying with your 'teachers’ kids’ accusations.
Our principle does not dictate to parents who they can and cannot invite to anything outside school. Our principle has never had a sleepover or a party. A fellow parent had a birthday treat for her daughter where she invited a couple of friends over after school (not a sleepover) and no announcements were made.
I am sorry your daughter was not invited to this, but I believe the week before your daughter had a birthday treat taking some friends to Universal. We were not invited to that, no big deal, but I definitely do not feel you 'abused or bullied' us by not inviting us, or that we need therapy to recover from not being invited. The whole negative reviews seems crazy to me.
I hope others reading your review will see it for what it is and won't let it put them off joining our Crenshaw family.
I wish you and your family the best at your new school.

BULLYING & ABUSE FROM ADULTS AT CRENSHAW SCHOOL

ABUSE & BULLYING from adults, BE CAREFUL! My daughter was attending 7th grade at Crenshaw this school year and the principal of the school, Ms. Tanya (a parent) arranged a slumber party for all the 7th grade girl’s class, purposely excluded our daughter, publicly announced it in front of the whole school at dismissal time and my daughter saw her classmates leave for the event.
No one approached my daughter about it and they treated her like if she wasn’t even standing there. The principal of Crenshaw school did this, the whole class knew about it and that my daughter was excluded (most of them children of the school staff by the way). They kept it a secret from my daughter until the principal lined up the students for dismissal and the principal announced it.
Imagine the feeling of a child being psychologically abused by the people they trust to protect them while away from their parents. We took our daughter to a psychologist because she underwent a psychological trauma and we are still dealing with the problem. We never sent our daughter back to that place even if the school year is almost ending. Imagine adults psychologically abusing your children while you are trusting them to take care of your children? I BEG YOU, stay away!
Don’t trust the Crenshaw staff while your children are out of your sight. If your children are already attending this school, be sure to listen to them if they complain about how the teachers are treating them. This school is as skeptical and unsafe as their website and the owner will always try to cover up this scam. Take a really good look at the bad reviews as those are the true ones. Crenshaw school is just a group of parents that decided to make a school for their kids, the owner is not really the “owner” and she has no control over the behavior of this parents. There’s a lot of favoritism with the children of this parents (teachers) and your kids will be put down and belittled (read other bad reviews).
The principal and teachers (which are parents) bully our children, they only praise their own children. Discipline is overemphasized (with the exemption of the teacher’s children) They will blame your child for their own children’s bad behavior in order to keep this kid’s records intact. They are nice at the time of enrollment but once the child is in, forget it!
The facility is a joke and very uncomfortable, do you really want your child to spend most of his/her day in this crowded place? Just go in and take a walk around during school hours and you’ll know what I mean. The school staff (parents) will try to keep you going through that car line as much as possible to distract you from what really is going on in that uncomfortable place. Crenshaw sells a customize curriculum while keeping the child in the same grade, I was able to do this for FREE at FLVS because I’m a Florida resident.
At Crenshaw, the teachers (parents) will let your child struggle with their online curriculum because they are too focused on helping their own children, then blame your child for the bad performance. Moreover, they don’t want our children to advance so they can keep taking our money. Your child will also have a hard time transferring to a good school if coming from Crenshaw (see bad reviews from other parents), this is VERY true. Don’t expose your child to the uneducated and ignorant people of this “school”. See the truth behind the illusion they are trying to project to you!

The parent should understand that the deposit is non-refundable which is policy with all private schools. I originally sent my son to another local private school very close by and within a month of providing a deposit explained that our family was being relocated due to my husband's job. They flatly denied my request for a refund and of course I had no choice but to accept it as their contract explicitly indicated in was non-refundable. Their refusable did not deem a reason to file a ridiculous report as the deposit was non-refundable.
Upon returning to Orlando 2 years later, my son was struggling at Olympia High School and we had him placed at The Crenshaw School. Not only did his grades improve dramatically but he graduated with honors. That was evidenced by his high SAT scores and acceptance to Princeton University.
The Crenshaw School had no obligation in refunding a non-refundable deposit. It is evident from the emails that while Ms. Crenshaw desire to do so, the economy, which affected everyone, placed her in difficult situation and was unable to refund the deposit. Again, the deposit was non-refundable and everyone that places a deposit does so understanding that.
This is a poor and baseless attempt at making defamatory remarks about a school that has and continues to have an excellent academic reputation and is respected in the community.
As for the school not building a permanent campus as it intended at a permanent location has nothing to due with whether a school is good or not. This sounds like a very shallow reason to decide whether to attend, or not, a school. A pretensious building does not guarantee quality education. We have plenty of those in this town already.
I maintain contact with the school and current parents, and can freely share their disgust with the type of behavior exhibited here by an adult, nonetheless. Many have suffered in this economic recession yet have not behaved in such a petty and childish manner.
