The Hartford Casualty Insurance 10% cancelation fee Berwyn Pennsylvania

If you think it is an easy task to cancel your auto insurance policy, think again. With Hartford insurance it is possible only at the end of your policy term, unless you are ready to pay a lot of money for cancellation.

When we tried to switch auto insurance in February 2009, I called customer service to clarify cancellation procedure because insurance paperwork contains only one sentence about cancellation - yes, you can cancel insurance, no more.

Lady at customer service nicely explained me how to do it without telling me about any charges involved until I directly ask the question: how much? And she told me that we have to pay them 10% of unpaid balance (it was about $70 for February) and they will return us some money we already paid for that month (about $60). It was a shocking discovery!

The thing is: Hartford will automatically renew your insurance even you do not pay them, the only way to cancel insurance is to send cancellation form.

We decided to wait until end of the insurance term (to avoid charges). The customer service lady sent us a cancellation form we have to fill up. So, we sent the form almost three weeks before end of the term.

However, next month Hartford deducted money from our bank account. My wife called to customer service again and they told her that it takes a month to process the cancellation. Two weeks later we got our money back minus their processing fee ($2.00).

Finally it was over.
