After a recent purchase and installation of replacement Farley Windows from The Home Depot of Canada, I have learned the windows allow water to leak into the house. If water leaks air may leak, too. The Home Depot of Canada has said they are looking into this matter but nothing has happened after several months. Farley Windows, the manufacturer of these windows, seems to be content that it's OK for their new windows to leak water due to the poor design of the window drainage. I know Farley Windows of Alexandria, ON manufactures these windows sold by Home Depot Canada and by many other dealers as well. By going on the Internet, I hope to learn if others have had the same experience, and how I may be able to deal with this situation effectively. I have put my questions to both the seller and the manufacturer but neither has answered my questions. I post my question for those who are in the process of buying replacement windows so that they may be able to protect themselves by raising these questions upfront:
Question to The Home Depot (the seller)

1- Who is (are) the Window Manufacturer, Producer, and Supplier?
2- Why there is no Farley Windows labels on these windows?
3- Are these windows made in Canada?
4- Are these windows made in Farley Windows Canadian locations?
5- How different are these windows from other slider vinyl basement windows (SVBW) made by Farley Windows and shown on their web sites?
6- What is the status of warranty on these windows?
7- Are the warranties same as other SVBW Farley Windows?
8- Do these windows carry the National Fenestration Ratings Council certificate as well as certifications from the AAMA and Energy Star?
9- Have these windows been tested with standardized tests by CSA or other credible testing organizations and found to be leak-free windows? Water? Air?
10- Did you obtain the window performance data before offering these windows for sale?
11- Can you provide me with a copy of the Window Performance Data? Please explain in detail.
12- Has The Home Depot conducted a simple water test on any of the remaining stock windows since the matter was brought to your stores attention earlier in September?
13- Are these windows still sold in your store?
14- Have you informed all those who have purchased these windows about the defect?
15- Have you initiated the necessary course of action to mitigate further losses to your customers?
16- Have you arranged for an immediate replacement of these windows in accordance with The Home Depots current practice and pledge?

Question to Farley Windows (the manufacturer)
1- Who is (are) the Window Manufacturer, Producer, and Supplier of these particular Farley Windows ?

8- Do these windows carry the National Fenestration Ratings Council certificate as well as certifications from the AAMA and Energy Star?

10- Why the window performance data are not available for these windows?
11- Has Farley Windows conducted a simple water test to determine the threshold limit of water leakage on any of these windows since the matter was brought to the companys attention earlier this September?
12- Are these windows still sold in stores?
13- Have you informed all those who have purchased these windows about the defect?
14- Have you initiated the necessary course of action to mitigate further losses to your customers?
15- Why Farley Windows does not provide a copy of two servicemen reports and other details that may prove these windows are not defective?

leaking windows from Farley that were purchased from home depot

AUTHOR: Andrea - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 17, 2009

i also bought farley windows. 8 in total. 5 leak. 5 were replaced after inspectors came oout to the house a number of times. first it was our fault because we installed them, then because we sprayed water in the sill to prove they leaked. farley responded that they leaked because of the hose pressure.. it was still our fault. finally they were replaced and installed by HD. the original purchase was in 2005 and i am still argueing with them. the 5 still leak in the exact same place but it is the installation, so i thought for sure i have a case now because they installed them but it turns out that hd only warranties installs for 1 year and since they have been pushing me away for over 2 yrs: its void.
recently one of the windows that didnt leak had cracked. so i called in the size and to my surprise the glass was shipped out to me. however, after hiring island glass to install it, it turned out to be too small.. when the man had taken out the cracked glass he had mentioned that it shouldn't have came out so easy and that it lacked the silicone seal to hold the glass in place. his opinion was that since it was not sealed that this was the cause of its breakage because it could rattle in the wind etc. so now i wait to see if i will get the new glass.
hd said they will sent someone out to the house that knows what they are looing for, to inspect these fauly/leaky windows..
this was the worst purchase i have ever made and would not recommend anyone to buy anything from hd..since i have been doing some research on their products and heard similar stories..door and window installers have heard these horror stories as well, and will not go near their products.

Farley windows and Home Depot do not stand behind their products

AUTHOR: Wendy - (Canada)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 16, 2008

I agree Mark.
We too installed Farley windows throughout our house, the very first winter we noticed significant ice build up on the windows ( from inside the house). I called Home Depot and they contacted Farley Windows, a representative was sent out to the house proclaiming our humidity level was too high.. a test was done and the humidity levels were fine. The represenative put some felt around the window, proclaiming it would solve all the problems and lo.. it didn't.
We have had the reps out to the house twice and nothing has been done, the second time they sent someone to inspect the installation and declared they were installed correctly.
Last week I was cleaning the windows and noticed a gap between the side of the window and the casing or frame of the window, it appears that the sliding casement window has shrunk away from the frame that is apart of it. I called Farley Windows in Alexandria and left a detailed message.. lo.. I haven't heard back from them.
I have given up on Home Depot and will never buy there again, in the past 5 years we have spent in excess of $70,000 there., no wonder there profits are in decline with their shabby customer service.
At the same time I purchased an exterior french door which has since warped, they will do absolutely nothing about it, the door cost me $1800.
We are now seeking at installing all new windows in the house, although ours are only 5 years old. Perhaps our front porch at the cottage could use these useless windows.

Wendy
