The Horror Is Alive is a web forum for Resident Evil fans, which uses the vBulletin software and that anyone can join by registering for an account. Well, that is anyone not called Beasley or Grace Saunders. When registered, members will then flame whatever you have to say, even if it makes 100% sense, but if you flame them back, you will get banned in due time and have a goofy avatar replacing your latest one. Note that the originating flamers receive no warnings, thus they're biased.

Only the elite members (example: the longest tenured members) get off the hook, while new members do not receive any mercy. It's a very tasteless cesspool of hate and spam posts. They even keep a public record of who gets banned and their members fill up the thread with off topic spam. It's never moderated either, because the lazy owner is never around to mop up.

Not only that, but they are illegally trying to bully Capcom into releasing Resident Evil 1.5 - a game that was scrapped in 1997 and would eventually see release as Resident Evil 2. They claim to know someone who possesses a copy of it, but he will not sell it unless someone pays him like $9999 for it. Their hosting provider is DreamHost, but they never deal with complaints, probably because they like their money too much.

The Horror Is Alive is NOT what the original report says it is...

AUTHOR: Akikage - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, February 07, 2013

I am a member of The Horror Is Alive forums, a website dedicated to covering the Resident Evil series of video games and related merchandise. My user name is Ronin Akikage there. I have been a member of the community officially since December 2007, though I have unofficially been a member as a 'guest' since several years before that. In the 5 years of membership I have posted 11 times, preferring to watch from the background. The above public information has been provided to merely show that I do not have alterior motives, nor do I speak for any other members of the site.

The complaint given for the website is without merit. While there have been members in the past, even long-time members, that have "flamed" or posted spam posts, these members have been banned. Even entire topics, such as the current 8,000 post topic on Resident Evil 1.5 has been closed temporarily for rude behavior. Other topics have been closed indefinitely. Yes, the website does keep a list of banned members, due to repeating offenders that not only create multiple accounts on this site, but other websites where they spread hatred and lies. There is even a possibility that that is the case with the original report filed here. The Horror Is Alive keeps an updated list only to protect members of the community from spam, illegal activities such as illegal downloading, and to promote integrity on the site. Members are not permanently banned, as thosed banned in the past have had an opportunity to made amends to the site owner, and be forgiven of past deeds as long as such offenses are not repeated.

Also, the original report is guilty of libel when it was stated that the site is attempting to bully Capcom (the creators of the video game Resident Evil) into releasing a prototype game. Members there have attempted petitions with signitures (completely legal) to send to Capcom as a means of showing there is interest in the prototype, and there have also been members of the "elite" (using the original report's term for long-time members of The Horror is Alive -- NOTE: not the website's term for those members) that have attempted to track down leads for the prototype years ago. Currently, these "elite" members use their experience to discredit scammers that attempt to con money from newer members regarding copies of the prototype (which don't exist or are limited to a handful of copies in the world). These members usually protect people from spending thousands of dollars on a fake product. There are even concerns within the community that members of the site, even possibly the banned members or those with multiple accounts there, are the scammers targeting the community.

The website is perfectly within reason when banning members, and is not taken lightly... I m assuming the members that posted the report was a banned member, which means he was either guilty of multiple offenses of flaming, trolling, or spamming. The community at The Horror Is Alive is protective of its members and does not tolerate ANY of the behavior that the complaint is reporting that they do. It would be wise of the reporter to provide evidence with links to forum topics as proof of his complaints. Otherwise, the reporter is guilty of libel.
