his is a company that prays on high school, college, and recent college grads trying to break into sports and entertainiment marketing. It is not really either, it is strick hard core, commission only sales! and while marketing is sales, sales is NOT marketing!

A report previously filed by Tran of Anaheim is completely accurate... but it is far worse, and perhaps that is because this man is young and does not realize how bad this scam is.

To begin with --- an ad is placed on the internet that reads something like this (one of their actual ads)

The Landers Group is a promotional marketing company currently in its third year of growth. The key to our success is the unique approach we take in order to increase market share for each of our clients... WE MAKE THINGS PERSONAL!!

Our Client Reps meet with new and existing customers on a daily basis. Because we represent clients like professional sports teams, golf courses, restaurants and entertainment venues, this requires professionalism and integrity at all times.

We are a company on the move - always striving to reach higher goals. With each new market that opens up, we need new directors. Due to recent in-house promotions, we now have several ENTRY LEVEL positions available. We will be training these candidates for future management positions within our firm. We do have a strict 100% promotion from within policy so all pay and advancement will be based on performance, NOT seniority. We offer a friendly team environment of professionals that are willing to train you at the entry level. After training, the most motivated and competitive are placed into higher leaderships roles within the company.

The people we are seeking will be trained and willing to learn all aspects of our business from the ground level up including....

-Customer Service
- Campaign Management
- Team Management
- Promotion Sales
- Marketing Concepts

Do you want something more than a cubicle, computer and coffee breaks? Do you think you can handle a fast-paced, competitive, team atmosphere? Are you looking to move ahead based on your talents and personality?

We are accepting resumes online or applicants can call our office for more information

After they post the ad and tell you that you will earn 32K-40K annually, and get you in the door, you are then told at the end you are a INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR and will be given a 1099 at the end of the year.-- however, these people who are tired dont meet the test of an independent contractor at all, and so the employees are left holding the bag to answer to the IRS, and go without.

As a result of being hired as an independent contractor, the company gets around the following
1) dont have to pay employee taxes

2) dont have to pay workers comp benefits, or any benefits for that matter

3)dont have to pay overtime, you are working 12 hour days, 6 days a week to make the owners wealthier....

4) dont have to reimburse mileage expense, but hey they are NICE! They give you at least some gas money..... how kind!

5) if you lose a confirmation code for a sale, YOU pay for the tickets..... so that means you might make nothing for the whole day!!!!

6) they pay a big $50.00 per day while training if you dont sell anything... that comes out to a little more than $4.00 per hour

7) you are responsible for the additional 15% employment tax and all of your benefits....

and then apparently, this company will change their name and start all over again..... the CEO wants to quite in 2 years, maybe he does not sleep well at night!

I personally would not recommend anyone get involved with this company because no one wants to be in trouble with the IRS, and they pay out in cash, and who knows if the 1099 forms they pass out are even correct????

This is a scam alright, but not only on the young employees that work for them, It is a scam on the State they are in, a Scam on the IRS, on insurance companies, on the state board of equalization, and host of other organizations...

Someone needs to stop this group! I have never been an employee of this company, but I have watched, and these practices bother me enough to at least make a comment on it.

I have posted before on this so-called company and their unethical ways. (See this post I wrote on (((Redacted)))-(((Redacted))) Thanks for your post informing people about the legal and financial reality of this company. It really puts things into a practical perspective for those unfortunate "independent contractors" that slave for this company.

Thankfully, I had enough wits about me to not accept the position they offered me, but did get duped into their day-long "interview" where I was able to see a lot of the ridiculous and unethical things that go on inside this company (while also walking nearly 6 miles in a suit in 80 degree weather to shadow the salesperson I was with).

It makes me very sad that the people running this company take advantage of well-intentioned, young job seekers for their own advantage. Especially in the economic environment of today...

Truly, truly... if it is too good to be true, IT IS! You should be suspicious about a company that is constantly hiring (especially in this economic climate). You should be suspicious when in the interview process, your interview talks more than you do. You should be suspicious when nearly all the people working in the company (other than the scummy managers) and in the interviews are under 25. You should be suspicious when they hire any schmuck naive enough to accept the job offer and promise you a straight shot to a life of luxury (and tell their employees that there must be something wrong with they way they are pitching their sales, that's why they aren't getting ahead).

I beg anyone working for this company or considering an interview: please, do not waste your time!
