The Law Office of Brett Margolin, P.C. Took the money and ran, Internet

I did a search on this firm and found some good and bad critsism. Like everything else in life there are 2 sides to every coin. I gave them a chance as so much of the online commentary is mixed. I worked with their Huntington, NY location and spoke with Mr. Helkowski, Carrie and Debbie. All of whom were very professional and nice.

I was seeking a lower payment for my mortgage because I lost my job and only collecting unemployment. They told me they could allow me time to find work but I would need income to be able to modify. I feel fortunate that Mr. Helkowski was able to stop my foreclosure and not have it rescheduled for 3 months. During which time I found a new job.

I was treated with respect and told the truth throughout the process including news I did not want to hear (if you do not find work you must short sell). My payment went down a bit but they handled my main concern. They stopped the foreclosure and allotted me time to re-group.

Anyone looking for real help should call for advise. I used their Huntington office and am extremely satisfied that my family still has our home. Some of the comments I have read seem like people trying to get a free ride because I was shown nothing but respect and told the truth. I hope this helps anyone looking.

  It's bewildering to me that so many people are so ignorant in their thought process. Just think what your saying "the law firm put me in foreclosure". Let me ask were you under the impression that the law firm held your mortgage. Do you believe the decision on lowering your payment was their decision? The attorney is hired to be your advocate just like in a court room if you were accused of a crime. Your attorneys job is to present your case in the most advantageous way to sway the outcome in your favor. You hire them for their expertise , experience, and record, Not for an outcome. Do you think that in a murder trial if a defendant is convicted that he doesn't pay his attorney, or gets a fee reduction? No its not the attorneys fault you are in that position any more than it is his fault you are in foreclosure. It is your responsibility and yours ALONE to pay your mortgage. While it is true that arrears payments are restructured into the back of the loan, no one should ever suggest to anyone that they not pay their mortgage.

  The banks and credit card companies are robbing us on a routine basis and its legal.. because while the financial institutions are robbing us our government is driving the getaway car!!! And they have the majority of the country duped into believing they will "take care of them" without council. Funny the powers that be always suggested that you have an attorney look over ANY contract you sign ( even a contract to remodel your bathroom), but now with the contract for your single most valued asset you should not hire council... Why? Because now the powers that be have "skin in the game"... They don't want you to be informed, and have an expert on your side... because when you do, they can't take advantage of you anymore!

I am Brett's competition and have never met him, but have had some dealings with former staff members, and I believe he is fighting the good fight, but like so many of us trying to help, is a bit overwhelmed by the sheer volume of people that need help.

At the end of the day its simple... The banks and the government have taken us all for a ride, a government for the people is no longer, we are now a government for the corporations... and Banks are corps. Check out the profits posted this quarter by JP Morgan Chase, Lieman Bros., Goldman Sacks, and Bank of America they posted RECORD profits!!! These are the people that put us in this situation. WAKE UP!!! Our government had a surplus not a deficit in 2001... The largest in US history!!! Now China all but owns us!!! If we continue down this path I fear for the future of our nation. "The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be, secure, when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them"- Patrick Henry.

After reading through this post, i feel horrible that a client feels this way regarding the experience they had with my law firm.
