Tommy Farmer send me a letter with no date, saying that:

"Our buyer group has requested that out firm assist them in locating a company within your industry that would be willing to sell their business."

We've been in business a long time and we don't get letters like these, unless it's a scam.

It's signed by Tommy Farmer, President of TMG Brokerage. Apparently they had to change their name from The Marvin Group because the company is a scam (see other reports here)?

The letter was sent via Post Office Bulk Mail. Seems kind of odd when you figure that they are sending me an email about someone specifically looking to buy a business in our industry? With no date on the letter?

I called the number on the letter and got a girl who said she could take a message and give it to Mr. Farmer. It seems that he's not available at the number I called: 800-841-9694 (that's on the letterhead).

From other ripoff reports it seems like he's not available at any of the numbers. As a matter of fact they seem to make their money by getting some money from the "seller," and then not even trying to sell the business (according to other ripoff reports).

When I looked for TMG Brokerage scams in google it led me to ripoff report. I couldn't figure out why until I realized that they changed their name.

Their websites are essentially the same (same address and phone numbers as of this writing):

Simply not true and we can prove it.

AUTHOR: Tommy Farmer - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, July 17, 2015

I have no idea who you or your company is since you wanted to remain anonymous.  The facts about my company are that we have been in business for over 12 years with over 2,000 clients, many of them we have sold.  In those 12 years we have had 6 complaints (less than ½ of 1%).  Some of those complaints, like yours, we have no idea who they are, certainly not clients.

This leads me to believe the same ones may have complained more than once.  Unfortunately, we do not sell all our listings but primarily it is because the businesses are overpriced or the business takes a turn downward.

As for our two different names, The Marvin Group is our southern operation and TMG is our Midwest operation, both under The Marvin Group LLC.  Anyone who thinks we make our money selling retainers, not businesses, could not be further from the truth and can be verified with many, many names and numbers of our sales.

We have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau.  No one could stay in business, and had the success we have had, doing what you indicated.  Any questions can be answered by me at my direct number, 770-886-5100.

Sincerely,

Tommy Farmer

President
