Earlier this year, I signed up for a six month term with a MEGA health insurance plan. They requested my bank account information including routing number in order to debit my account on a monthly basis, otherwise my premiums would be significantly higher. I had thought this was fishy, but really thought nothing of it.
Throughout these past six months, I've needed medical and/or dental visits approximately 4 times. I have not received a single paid claim. First, my spouse required an E.R. visit for a broken ankle. Because this was so close to the starting date of my policy, the claim was denied. The hospital relayed to us that MEGA stated our coverage had not started as of the visit date, even though it had. I ended up paying the entire $1,000 out-of-pocket.
A similar situation happened two months later. My spouse required an E.R. visit and the claim was denied for one reason or another. Myself, during the six months I only required one dentist visit. I sent in the claim close to a month and a half ago and have not received any reimbursement as of yet.
Besides not paying our claims, what I am the most angry about is the fact that after sending a certified letter to MEGA a week and a half ago stating I would be terminating my policy and specifically instructing them not to debit my bank account, they did so anyway for this month's premiums.
I called them today asking why they debited my account even though I specifically instructed them not to and they stated it was because they are in different departments. I demanded a reversal of the money, and they said it could take up to two weeks to get my money back.
In conclusion, I would highly advise anyone seeking health insurance with MEGA Life & Health Insurance Co. to seek elsewhere. They do not pay out claims that they boast about when signing you up. My agent told me MEGA was known in the industry for the percentage of claims they pay out. Was it because it was so LOW?
It seems that their ultimate goal is to get you signed up along with automatic debiting from your bank account. At that point, they have complete control over your money. After reading other rip-off reports, I'm glad I didn't overdraft like other victims of MEGA Life & Health Insurance.
I am now signed up with a Health Savings Account and a High Deductible Insurance Plan. It seems that since I rarely require medical visits, it makes more sense to pay myself tax-free and not this greedy, conniving company.

Don't forget to cancel the Alliance package if applicable, they will keep drafting that even after cancelling insurance.

You did the right thing....get a REAL health plan like Blue Cross.
If it were me I'd cancel the bank account...it they did unauthorized debits once they'll do it again.
