I recently purchased an antique radio from a specific seller, Richard Brill, who advertises on The Radio Attic, a site maintained by Steve Adams.  There was an issue with this radio from the day I received it, but I decided to "live with it" because the set supposedly had been completely reconditioned prior to sale.

After just over one month of very light use, the OFF button on the set stopped working.  When I reported this problem to the seller, he recommended applying silicon spray to the button.  When I did this, not only did the OFF button still not work, two other buttons (AM and FM) also stopped working, so that the set became totally nonfunctional and useless at this point.

When I reported this to the seller and requested that I be allowed to return the radio for a full refund, he flatly refused, and accused me of not only breaking the radio, but also taking parts out of it.

Given that this radio had an issue from the day I purchased it, I'm left to wonder whether the seller did in fact recondition this set prior to sale, as he advertised.

I then appealed to the owner of the Radio Attic web site, Steve Adams.  To my great surprise and distress, he backed up the seller.  So now I have a radio that does not work for which I paid $150, and I have no recourse against either the seller of the radio or the owner of the web site.

Old stuff breaks

AUTHOR: Steve Adams - ()

While I can't deny anything Bob said, fact is, he did not report a problem with the radio for over a month.  The Radio Attic requires sellers to return a radio if a buyer is not satisfied, but this is done within the return policies of each individual seller.  Few will have warranties as long as 30 days, and this particular seller did not have that long a warranty.  These are old electronics we're dealing with here, and they can't be guaranteed indefinitely.  A 50-year old radio evidences a miracle every time it's turned on!  I'm sorry Bob isn't happy, but he should have reported the problem immediately.
