I joined The Right One (formerly called "Together") more than 2 years ago. You don't join by time but by number of arranged meetings. I bought 17 "meetings." I think I still have a couple left.

This company in no way tries to set you up with people you would actually be compatible with. I got the feeling they just go through their files and match by general age. I told them repeatedly about the type of person I was looking for and repeatedly they set me up with no one near close to what I described. Worse, they send out letters to your potential matches with only two or three lines of description about you. I asked about this and was told they limit the description to approximately 50 words! I wanted to rewrite the few lines so they would be more truly reflective of what I am, but they wouldn't let me. And they waste precious word space for everyone with the same exact ending: "be sure to ask [fill in your name] about his [or her] other interests." I suggested that they say to be sure to ask me about my favorite artist, but no, they wouldn't do that. The first few words are devoted to height, hair color, and eye color as if that were so important! Sure, those are interesting, but not worth it if you're limited to 50 words.

This company is extremely rigid too in that they will let you "pre-select" among two or three names that they have chosen but you have to set a phone appointment a month in advance to do this. And you can call only on the "matching week" for your age. They have one specific week per month for matching people who are in their 30s, the next for people in their 40s, and so on.

Everyone they ever set me up with was no where near what I described in detail (and in writing) about what I was looking for. Strange, because they bill themselves as the "relationship experts" implying that they know more than you about what you really want or need. My high-pressure sales guy told me internet dating was "a joke." The joke is this service!! At least on the internet I can find out a lot more details about a man than this service gives and likewise, can be a lot more specific in internet profiles about what I'm looking for.

No, I'm afraid it is The Right One that is the joke and at the $1,700 I was ripped off for, the joke is evidently on me.
