I am a public school teacher and I started paying into The Standard when it was called UVUM; that was 21 years ago. For the first time, I filed a partial disability claim. The first call I made was to ask about filing a claim & the gal said I had to be working at least 80% of the time, which was my case. The doctor reduced my hours from 40 to 32. After I got all the documentation together (a big hassle) as I had to get paperwork filled out by the doctor & the human resources dept. at my school, I sent it in. I just got a call this week that my claim was DENIED because they only pay if I was working LESS than 80%. Of course, I asked for a supervisor & told him that I had been given bad information & that their own staff didn't understand the policy and had given me erroneous information. I told him I wanted all 21 years of my premiums returned; this past year, I paid in $40 tenthly, so $400 for the year!

I would strongly recommend NOT using this company and NOT to waste your money!!
