To whom it may concern,

I don't know where to start, other than to say that this business tried to take me for a ride and rip me off for $1,400! I am 68 years old and I took my car here for the yearly inspection, oil change and a spare tire repair on 5/19/2016. I barely made it back home after dropping my car off and they had left a voicemail message stating that my car did not pass inspection. I called them back and the guy (Richard) proceeded to go through a list of needed repairs in order for my car to pass.

Totaling $1,400

I was in shock to say the least. I proceeded to tell him to put my car back together and I would be picking it up. He then started bargaining with me, and after a few times leaving the phone and coming back, he got the price down to $600! I am 68 years old and wasn't born yesterday. I know there is a set price for parts and for labor, how do you bargain that? He then asked how much I had on my Car Care Credit card, and if I had someone to borrow from?? Seriously? When I didn't have the right answer for him, he said (Oi vey!) He told me he would only charge me for the oil change, and my sticker would still be on my vehicle. He also told me he would work on getting some better prices for parts, etc for the repairs and will have that for me when I picked up my vehicle. All I got was a receipt for the oil change. Nothing stating what repairs my car needs. So now things are starting to look shady, and I felt so beaten down by all of this I was a mess.

Living on social security is tight, and extra money is obsolete. My neighbor told me she knows someone who does car work for her and she would call him for me. He took my car in yesterday 5/23/2016. This man was never told what the other business did, because I wanted an unbiased second opinion. He said he would call if the car needed any work to let me know. He said otherwise we could pick it up in a couple hours. When we went back to pick it up, he said "You're all set. you owe me $21.00 for the inspection." I was floored! I said, "It passed?" "Yes" he said, "There is nothing wrong with your vehicle." I cried happy tears, because this was had been weighing on me the whole week-end. After the tears, I told him what the other place did to me. He said that he sees this kind of thing every day happening to women. I also paid this other place $600 less than a year ago for rear brakes. When I told him that he shook his head and said that was outrageous! I was in a bad place because my brakes failed and I was at their mercy. They talked me into applying for their in store Car Care card to pay for the brake job and I also had to use another credit card for the rest. I am still paying for those brakes, and now they tried to get $1,400 from me. This makes me sick to my stomach when I think I let them get away with this once and they tried it again. It makes me sick to my stomach to think how many other women or even men they have done this to and gotten away with it.

To put someone through that is inexcusable, to prey on an older lady is unconscionable! I believe they should be investigated by any and every means possible! They are dishonest, deceitful, and just plain shady! I have filed with the BBB, and I will also be filing a complaint with the State DMV complaint board. They need to learn that they can't keep doing this to people and get away with it.
