The item (a marble trunk) was sold through eBay. I was concerned because of the size and weight of the item. The buyer assured me that they had items like this shipped in the past and described how they packaged it. I finally agreed to ship it in the manner they described. I shipped it UPS and insured the item for full value plus enough to cover shipping cost, $600. It was packaged well wrapped in 3 layers of bubble wrap, shrink wrapped, then wrapped with a shipping blanket, shrink wrapped again, then cardboard bottom and sides and the man at the counter, Mike Price, when I ask if they had a bigger box said “no but it should be fine.”
The item arrived to the buyer damaged beyond repair. I filed a claim with UPS. They picked up the, denied the claim and returned item to me even MORE damaged than before. I’ve made repeated calls to UPS to dispute their decision. They sent be back to the store/ Mike Price. He told be I had to take up the dispute with Crawford and Company. I attempted for more than two weeks to make contact by calling and leaving messages. No call was ever returned but I finally got though to a person. They said I shouldn’t calling them and that it is a matter to take up with the UPS store/MIKE PRICE. I hate it when people are caught in a lie trying to rip some one off and still keep lying to try and blow you off

#1 Consumer Suggestion
Did you pack it or did The UPS Store?

I am assuming you are referring to The UPS Store company as where you shipped it. If you packed it yourself then you can almost be guaranteed to have a claim denied. If a UPS Store packed it, then you are 100% guaranteed to have the claim paid out by UPS. If you meet UPS's specifications of packing, then they are legally required to refund you for the Declared Value of the item. It should be wrapped in bubble wrap 2-3 times. Packing peanuts of full styrofoam blocks on the ouside about 2-3 inches on each side of the item. If these weren't met, then you aren't entitled to anything unfortunately.
If The UPS Store did NOT pack your item, then they are under no legal obligation to refund you a penny. They are only a middle man. If you felt you are being blown off, you must talk to The UPS Store and have them forward your concern to UPS.
