My husband and I hired Thomas to perform a remodel of our home.  We had him update the kitchen, build a new island, replace flooring, paint all interior walls, remodel master bath, and update guest bath.  We knew when we got the bid that it was very low compared to the others we recieved.  We even mentioned it to him when we originally spoke about hiring him. 

He assurred us he could complete the job at the contract price and in the time frame we needed.  We wanted everything to be finished by October 15th, 2015.  We liked him right off the bat, and he seemed so honest. He lived close by and said his costs were so low due to proxminity and that he would be doing most of the work himself with his crew.

The beginning of the job went great, we were very pleased and truly felt at ease that our date would be met.  Then came an abrupt standstill around the end of Sept.  Calls were not answered.  Texts were not answered.  Work was not taking place.  I began to panic, we are elderly and retired.  This remodel was to last us the rest of our golden years. 

We lost about a week in trying to get Thomas to respond.  When he did he said he had been ill and apologized.  He said the job would now go a week longer in October.  We were understanding but it did create an issue for us with movers and deliveries.

Around the original completion date we began asking when our cabinets would be installed.  He constantly put us off.  We dragged past the original due date, the second due date, and were now into November.  Still no cabinets.  We kept asking for status reports, he dodged our calls, it was a nightmare. 

The other work done at the house was very subpar too.  Ceramic in the restrooms installed poorly, paint done so badly we had to hire another contractor to complete it.  The worst though was the flooring/grout and the cabinetry. 

Thomas' "crew" is two hispanic males that literally stand around and do nothing until he arrives.  He will converse with them, briefly, then leave.  They are lost and need direction and are not the most skilled at the tasks they perform.  They did not cover the new flooring and as such, the grout was ruined!!  Not only was it poorly installed in the first place, then ruined on top of that!  We had to hire a contractor to come and stain the grout (we BOUGHT stained grout that was ruined by their bad install and not covering it) and this will now be a maintenance issue with our home every few years as the stain wears away.

But by far the worst part was the cabinets.  Thomas kept giving us excuse after excuse, we begged him to please just bring over what he had completed, we finally got the bases without doors or drawers.  But it was a start.  Mind you we are well into DECEMBER at this point.  We missed having Thanksgiving at our newly remodeled home, because it was still a mess, and Thomas really showed no concern at all.

Getting the doors and drawers again was like pulling teeth.  We finally got him to deliver them and had to hire another contractor to install them. 

We spent about $25,000 more than what his bid was (which was in-line with those from the other contractors we had at the beginning).  We had to hire others to complete work he did not.  I have asked him to return at least $10,000 of what we paid him and he has refused.

Working with him was the worst experience ever and I wish I had read all the reports here and on other sites about him.  Please do not hire him to walk your dog!  To have no conscience about stealing from a retired school teacher.  Something is not right that he is allowed to continue to scam and take from people after all these years.
