Dear Rip Off Report, I purchased a 36" proscan T.V. manufactured by Thomson Consumer Electronics maker of R.C.A televisions.

Several days after delivery my wife noticed the screen was all blocthy when in the off mode. After the holidays i called T.C.E to have the set replaced.

They informed me to contact one of there registered service repair centers. I explained that i wanted the set replaced. T.C.E. cosumer relations told me the warranty calls for repair and they would not replace it.

By the time the service people came (several weeks later) the set now had begun to make very loud noises and the picture would go waywire with static. The technician confimed that the set was defective from the factory and that it needed a new picture tube as well as the cabinet was broken. The tech suggested i call T.C.E. for a replacement set. His words were "why should you pay so much money for a set that needs such extensive repair".

T.C.E. refused to replace the set.

After 4 or 5 weeks the set was returned and allegedly repaired.

A few days later the set began to make very loud noises and the picture would go haywire with static again. I called T.C.E and demanded the set be replaced. The man on the phone informed me that "by law all that they had to do was repair the set. I asked to speak with his supervisor, he refused that information but told me i could write to the review board.

The set is back at the repair shop. (Going on 5 weeks)

I wrote the Review Board, They responded by letter telling me replacement was not an option unless the service people deem the set unrepairable.

I called the service people, One guy told me it was still apart on the bench but they cant figure out what is wrong. I asked him to tell T.C.E. the set is not repairable. He told me his boss would not do that.

I have since written the review board back and demanded a replacement set.

To add insult to injury T.C.E has informed me that my warranty will run out and would i like to renew it for $100 per year !

All i want is a new T.V. set that is undamaged. I do not want this lemon set brought back to my home. I paid for a new set, Thats what i should have gotten..

Can you help me please ?
Thank you Greg Lukos
