I ordered a few items from thredUP and received a free shipping bag with my items. I sent in 82 items and waited excitedly to see my credit. I was expecting, at minimum, $75 plus for the items I sent in as they were all in excellent or like new condition. I was beyond upset when I saw a $17 credit for my 82 items. I immediately contacted the company and, after several calls, received word that 52 of my items were either damaged, stained or pilled. Knowing my husband and I washed the items and spent over an hour packaging them, carefully removing any damaged items, I knew something wasn't right. Again I made several calls demanding these items back. I was told the company "donated" my items to charity...they did not have a name of a charity, just told me it was a "local charity." I then demanded pictures of each item and finally received them. After reviewing each item with a high resolution computer screen, we were only able to find 2 damaged items. I spoke to the head of customer service, Alex Schernig, and together we reviewed the photos. He also could only find 2 that had any damage and had the gull to tell me "the camera often doesn't pick up the damage." He offered me an additional $20, which I declined as my clothing items were worth more than a mere $37 dollars. I have pictures of these clothing items and would be more than happy to share them with anyone and everyone!
I simply want the credit I deserve. I provided clothing items in excellent condition and did not get a reasonable price for them in exchange. I would warn anyone and everyone against doing business with this company. I had planned to file a small claims court here in MD, but was told that my case would be "shakey at best" because the company is based in CA. However, the state lawyer suggested I contact the Attorney General of CA Consumer Protections, which is my next step.
