This letter is to complain about the way Ticketmaster is operating their buisness.
For those that do n ot know who or what Ticketmaster is...Here is the skinny ---
Ticketmaster is contracted by venues to sell consumers tickets for entertainment and some sporting events. There are defined rules and regualtions and terms and conditions (that they agree and are supposed to be governed by) regarding how, when, where, and quantity of tickets can be purchased depending on the event and Ticketmaster is contracted by the venues to maintain integrity and maintain ticketsales as per the rules and regulations. Unfortunately, Ticketmaster does not comply with these rules and regulations and I am prepared to do what I need to do to make sure I do not fall a victim of their misrepresentations and deceitful practices in the future.
Recently, I attempted to purchase four Hannah Montana (a Disney production) tickets for Atlanta and the show is set for November 28, 2007 - There was a pre-sale set by the Miley World fanclub which was suppose to allow the members purchase tickets early beginning 9/12/07 (I believe) and the general public was not permitted to purchase tickets until 9/15/07.
I went to a Ticketmaster retailer (Publix) in Lawrenceville, GA way in advance of the 10am time set by Ticketmaster to purchase these tickets. Upon my arrival there were numerous other people in line waiting to purchase their tickets for their daughters. I must remind you that this is a Disney production and we are not talking about the Beatles here. Its Hannah Montana and it is a show geared for CHILDREN! Mainly girls - ages 8 to 14. The retailer had a lottery for your position to purchase tickets regardless of what time you arrived. OK, Fine. I was lucky and had number 2 and the lottery started with one so I was real lucky...I was second in line and I was so excited to be able to get these tickets for my 10 year old daughter and her friends. Well, needless to say, the first gentlemen who had number one went to the cashier at 10:00 am and purchased TWO tickets. I was next in line and the anticipation was killing me...She asked me my preference and number of tickets...I wanted best available in the $66 range (the highest range tickets) and she said there are none available...Now remind you, it is only 10:02 am --- a mere two minutes since the darn tickets went on sale. I said "you are kidding me?" I asked her to find me anything, anything at all...To no avail, the tickets were already sold out at 10:02am!!! UNBELIEVEABLE. I could not understand why and how a Disney show could sell out in two minutes. I was shocked and angry! Anger really then set in when I went to my car and hooked up my laptop to see that bookies all over already had these tickets on various websites and had the prices jacked up to over $200 a ticket - and most tickets were going for up for $1600 a ticket...I began to ask myself "how in the heck could that be? - the show just went on sale"
Well, I am sure it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that Ticketmaster obviously has a contract (on the side) with these bookies who had these tickets in their hands and were re-selling them no more than 10 minutes after the tickets went on sale in the first place. I am not stupid and I will do everything in my power to boycott Ticketmaster and their deceitful practices and misleading advertisements.
I hope they feel real good that there are 1000's of little girls who don't get the opportunity to see their TV Idol because of greedy and theiving people and companies.
I have a saying that I love to repeat --- we all know about Karma right? -- Well - Karma don't mess around!
Ticketmaster's dirty little secret will eventually come out and I hope that I am one of the reasons it does.
I will get tickets to TREAT my daughter to a show where her idol is. I will not pay a lot of money and I will be honest when I get the tickets. I can promise you that!

TICKETMASTER SCAM WATCH OUT FOR THIS!!!

This is a Ticketmaster scam that they don't tell you about...
I purchased tickets upgraded to Platinum seats for my daughter and her friend to go to Taylor Swift. My wife dropped them off with the receipt, and the will call people told them that the actual person paying for the tickets had to pick them up. At this point, the person paying was already an hour away stuck in traffic.
I got on the phone with the will call people and Ticketmaster, and they state that their terms state - YOU MUST PICK THEM UP YOURSELF. I said.. I have never had a problem with Ticketmaster and their seats. I don't see anywhere in the terms that say anything about Platinum...
In fact, it says that Platinum tickets are excluded from your policy.
They said it wasn't their seats...
It was the VENUE who was selling the platinum seats for much more and they had already sold them to the venue. They have no way to issue a refund or change the names or transfer them to your daughter or put your daughter's name on them.
I said.. SO my daughter misses the concern even though she has the receipt, the confirmation number for the tickets.
They said yes. These are venue rules.

I assure you that almost all the complaints previously voiced in this thread are very true. Public sales for hot events are extremely limited. Tickets are help for VIP packages at astronomical pricing for the elites. Anyone with the right credit card (event sponsors) for that particular event has presale access. Members of the artists fan club, friends (contributors) of the venue has priority access, etc. A really hot act like Beyonce or Taylor Swift is nearly sold out before 10 AM rolls around. Trust me, the playing field is not close to being even. I resell tickets for a living (legally). It's a very meager living. Blame Ticketmaster not the reseller. Unless you are willing to do the footwork, homework, network to put yourself in the best position to get the best seats available AND be available to grab those tickets exactly WHEN they become available, you will be disappointed. I make money on volume sales. I do not gouge my customers. The truth is that for all the work that I do (it's a full time job folks) to provide tickets for resale, my profit on gross is less than 15 percent. That's right. First there is the ridiculous upfront fees imposed by Ticketmaster at the time of sale. Often they can be as much as 25% of the face value. Then there is a tax for this and a tax for that. Don't forget the "convenience" charges. Oh yeah, then of course there are the listing fees. For instance, StubHub charges 15% of the gross sale IF you are successful in reselling the ticket. Before you get that ticket listed you must jack the price to a 80% over face TO BREAK EVEN. You see, EVERYONE has their hand in your pocket. Oh, those bad scalpers. Right. Those big boys are making more money off the reseller than he could ever make. They make believe they have put procedures in place to prevent resellers access to tickets. That's baloney.
They make too much money from it. But realize one thing. Ticketmaster and their sister Live Nation are the biggest scalpers of them all. They put together 2 or 3 levels of "VIP" packages that sound fantastic. The first ten row or more are set aside. A backstage pass where you are lucky if you run into a roadie and bang, That'll be $1050 please. Can't afford that? How about a seat in the lower section and we'll throw in a tee-shirt and a cheesy poster? $450 please. Meanwhile, I buy 100 tix for Jimmy Buffett and lose 3 grand because they flooded their held tickets for pricing with which I could not possibly compete. My customers are quite pleased while sitting in the middle section on the floor watching their favorite artist for 180 bucks. Wait, I only made $27. Where did all that money go??

The OP is obviously somewhat irrational and reacted emotionally to a situation that had absolutely nothing to do with her personally. So rather than deal with this in a logical manner, asking for a different day or price level, the OP chooses to see conspiracies where there are none. Here's the reality of the situation: The event likely was sold out. You have thousands of outlets pulling for tickets at the same time, INCLUDING individuals on the internet. The event likely had an internet pre-sale, such as for American Express cardholders. Tickets are not saved for friends, etc etc..those tickets can be purchased the day of the event before the onsale for Ticketmaster employees.
If you had acted like a rational adult instead of throwing a temper tantrum at the counter, you would have had tickets. You indicate in the post your inability to understand simple concepts. Keep in mind that your inability to understand is not relevant since you chose not to understand.

Ticketmaster is basically the only game in town (selling tickets) so I guess they feel they can do anything they want and treat the buying public anyway they want. I very rarely go to any concert or show because I hate dealing with them. Here's a little tidbit that Ticketmaster does not give out to the public. No show is EVER sold out. They have seats on hold for friends of the performers, family members, the press, etc. If all these seats are not filled, for one reason or another, on the day of the show, they release them back into the system to be bought by the public. You can only get them though by going to the venue where the show/concert is being held, NOT at a retailer.

I accidentally booked a ticket for the wrong day via Ticketmaster for an art exibition. I asked them to change it to a day when I could go. They refused as they have a policy of not giving refunds or changing bookings. How difficult could it be for them to change my ticket to another day?
So, I thought in future i will not use Ticketmaster. OK, so that means that I can't go to any of the shows that necessitate pre-booking through Ticketmaster. This is a monopoly. I will complain to the gallery as they have chosen to use Ticketmaster and I think that they should reconsider this.
