This company sells mini pigs and it appears dogs as well. My girlfriend called to simply ask some questions and possibly go by their facility to see some of their pigs.  We plan to buy a house within the year and wouldn't be ready to buy a pig until then. However, being responsible pet owners we wanted to observe the pigs and ask questions.  The lady that answered the phone went from zero to jerk in nothing flat saying she wouldn't even let us come see the animals until she can verify we had a residence that would allow the animal.  In her words, it isn't worth her time until then. Clearly this lady has no idea what customer service is or how sales works.  How this rude person stays in business I have no idea. I will never buy any pet from these people.  I will make sure everyone I know is informed as to how they treat people that want to learn a little before purchasing an exotic pet.  One of the reasons we wanted to go "see" the animals was to confirm that we wouldn't be buying an animal from some puppy/pig mill. Maybe that's why she was so hesitant to allow visitors.

Ethics before Sales

AUTHOR: Trace - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 29, 2015

TLC PIGLETS: Ethics before sales... My business is NOT about sales first and foremost. I am first and foremost responsible to our piglets and puppies. I am most interested in placing our babies in homes suited to provide a loving home for life.

I cannot tell you the countless calls I have received in the past years from individuals who were looking to give up their pig due to situations where unethical breeders had "sold" them a piglet or even a puppy and never took a second to consider what happens to this piglet or puppy once they receive payment!

People have not been taught how to properly potty train or feed their piglets and most didn't even know there are restrictions in some counties, rental properties and home owners associations preventing owning pigs and or dogs.
As a responsible pet owner, one most consider that best laid plans to purchase a home and have the right to own a pig may not come to fruition.

In fact, I recently placed a piglet with a loving Newly Wed Couple. Just before the shipping date, I received the following email...

.
 " Hello,
I have some terrible news. Today I received a letter from the wonderful city that I currently reside inn, informing me that I was given miss-leading information.

When I first inquired with the city about having a piglet within city limits as a pet, I was informed that as long as the piglet remains a manageable size, I was all good to have the pig. Well now my city manager has decided that no "livestock" animals are allowed within the city limits, and the piglet is considered a livestock animal.

So unfortunately I am not able to continue with the adoption process. I know that I already paid you and that young Sabastian has already gone through the vet. I have read the adoption contract and am aware of payment for the vet visit and your process. So what ever money I am entitled to be refunded, I have no problems with.

If you have any questions for me please do not hesitate to ask. I can be contacted anytime at xxx-xxx-xxxx.

I am not sure how you are able to process the refund, please contact me and inform me of the preferred method for the refund.

Once again I am sincerely sorry for all of this, I am devastated that the city decided to do this at the last moment."

TLC PIGLETS: The worst part of all of this is the piglet pays the price, sometimes the price of their life. Some pigs become so strongly bonded with their human family that when they are rehomed, they refuse to eat and literally die from a broken heart!

As far as visits to see the piglets and grounds in which they are raised. This is most welcome!
However, there are best practices to consider. Momma pigs have been known to refuse their babies once they were handled by humans at too young an age..Some even kill them. Knowing what you are doing as a breeder means doing what is best for the pigs first and in turn this IS what is best for the humans involved no matter how you look at it.

With all due respect and keeping all the above in mind,  at the time this individual contacted me, the litter I had was not old enough to be shown and this couple did not have the home they planned to buy or the knowlege of, if they were even going to be allowed to own a pig.

One may think that if you live in a rural area it is a given that you can have pigs. This is not true. There is even a county in the Texas Hill Country that does not allow any type of swine what so ever. This is due to an epidemic case of swine flu in that county years ago. This restriction was set in place and now years latter it is still in place.

One of the worst things a person can ever do is assume.... I do not assume that this couple is a bad couple to raise a piglet as family..however they have made assumptions before doing actual homework. This is not an immediate gratification purchase. This is a life long commitment, sometimes as long as 20 years.

The committed first step IS to be sure you are Allowed to have a pig.

If this couple had had the knowledge that there were no restrictions in the home they planned to move to and were willing to wait until our piglets were old enough to be safely shown, we would have first sent them our references...and the truth about what type of customer service I provide, continued piggy parent support I provide and in the case that we did all our homework to the best of our ability and still something went wrong, I am still here to help rehome any piglet in need.

I work for the Pigs and Puppies! I provide the Best Family Homes I can find. The people are simply here on this earth to provide for and care for the little ones..

Feel free to visit my website. www.tlcpiglets.com  with an emphasis on my "Adoption Process Page" at  http://www.tlcpiglets.com/adoptionprocess.htm. There you will see how I run things with great success.

Thanks to this individual for allowing me to clarify who I am and what I stand for first and foremost. Ethical sales...not just sales.

In addition...please note RipOff Report is for consumers who have been "Ripped OFF"!
I simply followed my ethical business practices.
