I have read two ripoff reports on your site about TLG GreatFun, which puts a "click here for $20 off" box on web sites of other transactions.

I clicked on the box and subsequently read that there would be a monthly charge. Immediately I emailed a cancellation, saying I did not and would not authorize any payments, and did not offer my credit card number to this vendor.

Unfortunately, I then forgot about it and it was not until the second payme nt that I called to complain. The phone person said that the company did not accept email cancellations--only by phone. He then gave me a cancellation confirmation number. When I asked for a refund confirmation, he said previous payments would be a cancellation fee.

I waited to speak to a "supervisor" who identified herself as Natalie Davis. I told her we could settle this one of two ways: she could refund $23.98, or I would contact 1) my Visa card with a fraud complaint; 2)the New York State and Maryland Consumer Fraud divisions. She said she would credit my Visa account for the two months charged. She also gave me her address--PO Box 6100, Westerville, Ohio.

I pressed for the name address and CEO of any parent company and was told: Nat Lipman, Asinion Group, 100 Connecticut Ave. Norwalk, CT 06850.

Unfortunately the Bank of America phone person, who identified herself as Rita Buzzyn, took the same position as did the credit cards rep. on another of your complainants--that I had agreed to a contract when I checked the box offering a $20 discount.

But my belief is that a) asking for a discount doesn't disclose the information necessary for a credit card charge, and b) I can cancel within a day or two, as I did via the same internet method as the box I checked.

Your earlier complainant (was it Shayna?) also tracked down this company and found it had recently changed its name, which I think it has done again.

I don't understand the hard line of the people representing the credit card banks. They leave you with only the alternative to cancel your card if you want to protect yourself against further fraudulent charges.
So I'll change cards, but also contact New York, Maryland, and Connecticut attorneys generals. All three are fierce on consumer fraud.
