Toll Free Forwarding has been added to the continuing list of online companies who take advantage of consumers (me being one of them) who would like to use a free trial which they offer without further billing. I have been billed a full 4 months of service of which I never used and was only offered the current month as a refund. When I called the company, the analogy was given that it is the same as a gym membership as the consumer is responsible for canceling a membership. However, I only agreed to a free trial. If you receive a free pass for the gym, you are not charged for future months that you decide not to attend unless you choose to actually sign up for a membership beyond the free trial.

The only thing I was interested in was a free trial. At the time of my sign up, I was asked for my credit card information and I was under the impression that this was used as a form of legitimizing my identity being that this is a phone service and typically you cannot apply for a phone service of any sort without having some form of ID on hand. Had I known this would be later used against me, I would have not taken the trial at all.  I am seeking a full refund for all the months I have been charged as I have never used the service, including during the free trial period. No calls were ever received on my account nor were any calls forwarded to my local number which is the service they provide.

When in doubt, ask or read terms and conditions

I just signed up with a similar Free Trial on Onesuite Fax Plus service and they got the same free trial policy.

The company (Toll Free Forwarding) isn't ripping off anyone as most if not all Free Trial has the same conditions. Usually if a company asked for a credit card then you are likely to get billed when trial period expires unless you tell them to cancel the service.

What you want to avoid are those companies with free trials and then when it's time to cancel your service, the customer service number is always busy or you get a runaround or they make it hard for you to cancel the service itself. So I suggest you search the internet first for any reviews or comments about that particular company you are interested to sign up for.

Hello JR,

We apologize for any miscommunication and regret you are unhappy with our service.

However, when you agreed to the Free Trial, you also agreed to our Terms of Service - http://www.tollfreeforwarding.com/content/terms-and-conditions.html. In it, we clearly state that once the free trial concludes, TollFreeForwarding.com will charge the card you have presented for payment, regardless of whether you used the Service during your trial period.

Because we know not everyone closely examines the Terms of Service, we also included a Free Trial section in our websites FAQ tab - http://www.tollfreeforwarding.com/content/faq.html?selectedcontent=3. There, we plainly state that If you have a credit card on file, we will automatically charge your account so that service on your new phone number continues uninterrupted.

So, while you may have believed that you only agreed to a free trial, by not calling us sooner to cancel your account, you in fact agreed to become a paying customer.

Again, we regret that you found this agreement in any way unethical; however, you should know that the Better Business Bureau has consistently awarded TollFreeForwarding.com an A rating.

We would be happy to address any additional concerns if you wish to speak further on the matter. We urge you to contact our Manager of Customer Relations, Charles Bryan, at 1-888-452-1505.

Thank you.
