we bought a new,not used, lexus from tom wood lexus in indianapolis. we noticed the car was not right after a few days. suspecting the worst I took it to an independent body shop to have to inspected. Their report said it was hit in the front, the right side and the rear. No claw marks (frame straightener) on the frame so it didn't get into the frame. the right front wheel was bent. When I confronted the dealer about it they denied it and said that was not possible.

We told other people about our experience and found other people had the same experience with other makes sold by tom wood dealerships. We came to find out they buy wrecks from other dealers all over the US and fix them and sell them for new cars in indiana. Indiana law allows this but it is supposed to be up to twenty percent of the vehicles value in damage only and they don't have to tell the buyer. No one polices this extent of damage so if it's practical to do so they fix any damage and sell it for a new car.

Tom wood dealerships have thirteen different brand dealerships in indianapolis.

I paid off my lease on this car and told them I would never deal with them again. They just laughed and said we don't care.

Roy, this is border line liable!

AUTHOR: G.m. - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 25, 2009

I have managed this dealership for 15 years and I welcome "Roy" to call me to discuss his claims. Tom Wood has been in business for over 40 years and has a wonderful reputation in Indianapolis. None of his dealership has, does or will ever buy wrecked vehicles with the intent on fixing them and selling them to the public. Roy's claim cannot be true! Indiana has a state law that if a new vehicle has damage totaling more that 4% of the MSRP, it must be disclosed to the consumer. We disclose ALL repaired damage to a new vehicle.

The comment made that "Roy" paid off his lease and said he would never do business with us again and we laughed and said we don't care is absolutley ridiculous!

"Roy" is probably a disgruntled ex employee! I look forward to your phone call "Roy". Please ask for the General Manager.

Info for Roy on disclosure of damage

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, July 30, 2006

Roy,

You are right that they do not have to volunteer the information to you.

HOWEVER, if you SPECIFICALLY ask the dealership if the vehicle has ever been damaged, they must tell you. Make them swear out a statement to that effect or put the statement on the bill of sale.

Also any loss on a new vehicle would be reported to Carfax if any insurer paid a claim o it. This also protects you from falsified odometers, etc.. Each state has limits on how many demo miles can be put on a car before it can no onger be sold as new.

These type of dealers need to get exposed.

Keep up the good work!

why don't you buy out of state? Indy is in the middle but the interstates are as fast as the dealers.

Roy send the leasing company a copy of the report you got as to the condition of the car they contracted with your dealer to lease to you. The leasing company needs to know what kind of cars they are hanging paper on.

I am willing to bet that your leasing company has NO CLUE what kind of cars they are dealing with, Sounds NOT GOOD to me.
