Warning. Stay away from trying a new career at Liberty National/Torchmark. This is a company that brings you in, they have you work and they keep your commission. They don't want to pay. This is how it works. You get a phone call asking you to come in for an interview(this call is from an agent not being compensated for setting on the phones for two hrs finding their replacement by the way). The agent sets the appt. for the Branch Mgr.
You come in and sit down and they start telling how much money you are going to make. At the end they tell you to pay money to get your license and they will see you bk. You are never told part of your job when you start is to start recruiting for them to find your replacement.
What happens in the end is that you work for about two months and because you are trying to sell insurance to a business you do not generate an income or sales. During this time you are being threatened of Termination(their favorite word). You realize the only way to keep your head above water is to sell Individuals and then when you sell these Individual policies THEY DO NOT PAY YOU FOR THEM.
If you quit the branch mgr gets mad and tells you " I'm not giving you your check I'm sending it back to the home office". DO YOU REALLY WANT TO WORK FOR A COMPANY THAT COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THEIR EMPLOYEES? I guarantee they will keep your commission. Do you think they send the premiums back to the client? I DON'T THINK SO.
I WOULD NOT BUY OR SELL INSURANCE FOR LIBERTY NATIONAL!!!!!!!!!

#1 UPDATE Employee
You must be a disgruntled ex-employee but you can still be truthful...
AUTHOR: Liberty National Employee - Branch - (United States of America)

Liberty National has the same pay structure as most other insurance companies. When you sell a policy, they pay you a percentage of the first year's annual premium in advance. They hold back 30% in your commission account to cover declines, cancellations, not takens, and lapses. Depending on the account balance, you receive between 6%-10% of that each week before you even start work on Monday. There is also a bonus program which should account for the other half of your salary.
They don't pay you to make those 10 recruiting calls each week but I've done plenty of tasks at my prior job that wasn't in my job description. If it took you two hours to make those 10 calls it is obvious why you are no longer working there.
You do not pay any money to Liberty National to work for them. You have to obtain a state license to work for any insurance company. There is a 40 hour online class, a state exam, and an FBI background check that is required. Liberty National paid my state exam fee and I happily paid for the background check and license fee.
I have been paid for every policy that I have written, whether business or individual. If a policy lapses, it will come back out of your commission account because the full year's premium was never paid and you were already advanced that money. Either way, your paycheck is not affected because of the commission account.
The only bad thing I can say about the company is that their recruiting strategy is odd. They really should be more selective because they end up with folks like you who have bad attitudes and write bogus reports on here when they inevitably get fired. Personally, I have never had anyone here threaten my job. For the record, I am not management... just an agent making a decent living. No, I'm not making $100,000/yr but I've seen a few folks who have and believe me, they earn every penny of it. Nothing in life comes easy.
Bottom line... don't make up lies because you were lazy and got fired.
Perfectly Happy Liberty National Agent
