My computer failed to operate and as of 4 November 2006 satisfactory resolution has not been obtained. I have written the following complaint letters regarding the subject computer asserting that this failure was inherent. Toshiba has not responded to my assertions although inquiry has been made by various agencies. I have written the following letters:
Letter of 27 September 2005 to Manager, Toshiba America, Inc. New York, N.Y.
Letter of 5 January 2006 to Better Business Bureau, Colton, California
Letter of 8 January 200 6 to Toshiba American Information Systems
Letter of 6 March 2006 to Attorney General of Indiana, Consumer Protection Division
Letter of 24 March 2006 to Attorney General of Indiana, Consumer Protection Division

Each of these letters pertaining to the subject computer asserted cause of failure as the female power adapter being attached directly to the system circuit board. The subject computer was disassembled to determine cause of failure and found to be a faulty connection where the power adapter connector is attached to the assembly board. Photos (in figures 1 through 4) and the following discussion verify my assertions that the subject laptop has inherent design problems and is designed to fail.

Because the female connector is hard soldered to the system board and the stressed caused by any sidewise or up or down movement of the male connector the circuit board connection breaks and the power connection to the computer is intermittent. Because the power connection is intermittent the battery cannot charge and the entire computer becomes useless.

System Circuit boards are not designed for repeated external connections like this.

Never buy a Toshiba Computer! They are JUNK!

AUTHOR: Steve [Not A Lawyer] - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 28, 2006

Everyone I know who has bought a Toshiba laptop computer has had major problems, unresolved.

Mine was under the original warranty when it failed twice. This was the early WinXP installation before SP2. The components installed were not truly XP compatible, or SP2 compatible!

They offered generic drivers as a resolution, but still nothing but blue screen errors! It was sent back to Tosshiba twice, but the issue was never solved. It was the Yamaha sound card that was incomatible, with no available working driber for the Toshiba. Ever.

Then in several more times under the extended warranty. Still nothing fixed, and I was without my computer for more than 6 months total.

Since the sound card is a permanent part of the mother board, it cannot be changed, there is no solution but to disable the sound card and never install SP2. Then it worked. But no sound in a $2600 "top of the line" computer.

Never again.
