 I moved in back at the end of January 2016 and the problems started immediately! When I moved in, I found walls with cracks in them, chunks of human hair in stuck in the paint on the walls, concrete falls in chunks from the bathroom wall, the shower backs up while you're in it (making it impossible to take a shower for more than 5 mins), there's a think green sludge taking up more than 40% of my balcony (making it impossible to go out there) not to mention it's eating through the cement. I've been assaulted by someone that was trying to break into my apartment and had someone else try to break into my apt while I was in it, yet this is supposed to beat secure building. I've contacted management endlessly to have these issues resolved but to no avail. I couldn't even get the office to call me back. In March and April, I tried to with hold my rent each month until these issues were taken care of, as I was told I could do, but when they threatened me with eviction, (please note: I ended up paying each month after, each month, they threatened me with eviction).

According to NJ state tenate laws, if you with hold rentbecause repairs are not being done, it's illegal to charge a late fee yet I was. I was charged their standard 10% of my rent, which is ridiculous in itself. I asked one of the girls in the office, named Dayna, about these late fees & she told me not to worry. She said we can't or won't evict you because you have these & you won't be assed anymore fees. I felt these fees were unfairly and illegally assessed so I didn't pay them. After those two months, even though the repairs are still not complete, I decided to just pay the rent because I could see these people were crooks, liars and didn't give a crap about anything other than money. Also, in April I was in badly injured in a car accident & just didn't have the ability to fight about things. My rent was paid on time every month since. The late fees should have only been $171 from the 2 months, yet in May I get a phone call, at my job, telling me I owed $299. I asked the girl why & she couldn't tell me why & had to look into it. I asked here to please do & send me a statement of where this amount was coming from, which she never did. I never heard from the office again. No emails other than the ones they send weekly about the air conditioner being cut off for repairs or the fact that they're shutting of the water to fix something, etc.

Fast forward to August 12th when I come home to find of a notice of eviction filing. I called the office immediately and spoke with the nastiest, rudest woman. She advised that I owed over $900 because of late fees & filing fees. I asked her to explain why owed $550 in late fees when I was only late once. She explained that I was being charged late fees for the late fees & they were taking money paid for rent and paying the late fees first. When I asked why I would be charged late fees for late fees if they were being paid first, she just either talked in circles or changed the subject. She constantly talked over me or interrupted me and barely let me talk. I asked why I was made aware of this issue sooner and she flat out lied. First she said they tried to call, yet I received no calls. Then she said they sent an email but it bounced back. I've had that email for over 10 years & never had any issues. I get every email they send out about every little I thing. I asked her to send me proof of the email bounce back but that can easily me altered to say any email. She also advised that they sent a letter but could provide no proof that the letter was sent. She advised she was required to send it certified mail or to provided proof that she sent it. Also, I was never given the opportunity to to go over my lease. The office was closing & I was told to just sign the paperwork. I was told that if I didn't sign it then, I couldn't move in & I would lose my deposit & money I used to hold the apt. They said I could go over it at a later date & I was never given a copy of it. I have tried endlessly to get a copy & they refuse to give me one. They also denied my requests to go over the lease as promised.
