If you're looking for bait and switch, take a drive down the road to Jones Beach. The treatment we recieved from the dealership was nothing short of indecent. We came in with a pre-approved loan. They told us they could do better. Yeah -- our preapproved rate was 7.7%, they were offering 11.7%.

It gets better. My husband came with me on a Saturday to look at the car I was interested in and initiate the paperwork. We couldn't finish on Saturday, but our oh-so-friendly (at first) salesman Gary - who turned into a cold duck when next I saw him on Monday, persuaded me to come alone on Monday rather than wait to Friday when my husband could make it to finalize the deal. When on Monday before leaving my home for a 1.5 hour drive, I inquired of Gary how the financing process was going on their end, he said it was within "pennies" of what my preapproved rate was, so c'mon down!

It gets better still. They wanted to charge me $500 to process my license plate (e.g., remove plates from my trade-in and put it onto my new "preowned" car. "The registration's good for four years," claimed Gary, which in fact is illegal because, in fact NJ only allows four-year registrations only on brand new cars; all else is for one year.

And there's still more - since I had to apply alone b/c hubby wasn't there - although more than willing to come in on Friday - they needed an extra $1,000 downpayment from me. After much "discussion" they decided that they'd waive the extra deposit in return for an extra bank fee of $199. At that point I asked for my keys back and left.

I'm curious thuough what they would have done with the trade-in offer they made me on Saturday, since on Monday they asked the same appraiser to give it the once over again. I'm quite sure the trade-in offer would have dropped. Don't believe their prices. They're dinosaur-variety used car salesmen that I thought went out with the flood. I drove three hours round-trip two times for this car, but I didn't mind leaving empty handed.

I did, however, wash my hands thoroughly in the Starbucks down the street before heading home to wipe off the sleaze. They were the worst car dealers I ever dealt with in my entire life. They give Jeep Chrysler a bad name. I guess I should have known something was up when they did everything to deter me from bringing my own bank check (at lower interest rate) and from bringing my husband along. Thought they had the dumb little woman on the line. Too bad Chrysler didn't close them down.

DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS IS THE SAME 'TOWN & COUNTRY' DEALERSHIP THAT WAS EXPOSED IN A 'DATELINE NBC INVESTIGATION' THAT....

AUTHOR: Karl - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, September 19, 2009

aired on TV back in early December of 2003? I believe that the Sonic Automotive Dealer Group, which is the 3rd largest dealer group in the USA, owned the 'Town & Country' Ford dealership in that investigation, right? I can remember watching that Dateline NBC Investigation where a young woman's monthly income was altered by the finance manager. Her payment was also extended from 60 months to 72 months, without her knowledge. It was caught on hidden camera. I believe that investigation is at Stopautofraud.com on their website, right? Maybe it's still available at the NBC website too, huh? I'm going to see if it's still available & find out if there's a connection between this dealership & the one from that Dateline NBC Investigation that aired in December of 2003.

Thank you.

Town & Country, Levittown - it gets worse

AUTHOR: carbuyer - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, September 18, 2009

Town & Country Jeep, Levittown, NY 11756 I wrote before, but it gets worse. In T&C's zeal to get financing I didn't want (b/c it benefits them) scores of lenders showing on my credit report. Worse, one bank said T&C overpriced car by $1000. Internet Previously I wrote here about how Town and Country Jeep in Levittown, N.Y., tried every trick in the book to rip me off when I came in to buy a Chrysler Sebring. They offered me a reasonable deal when my husband was with me, and a fair trade-in on my old car. Since I was already preapproved for a reasonable rate, I told them I didn't need financing. They said they had "connections" and could probably do better. So on the following Monday, I made the 3 hour trek (after calling my sleezy salesman Gary who assured me the deal was looking good.) He was noticeably cool to me, taking me directly to the finance manager's dept. to meet a despicable man named Terrence Kelly. There I was assured they'd found a great loan for me -- but gee, it was 4 points higher than the one I had been pre-approved for. They couldn't wait a couple days for me to come in with my bank check, oh no. I had to take their financing on the spot. And since the guy who appraised my trade in was (miracles of miracles) re-appraising it, I'm sure the trade-in offer would have gotten lower. When I refused the higher interest loan, they demanded a $2000 downpayment from me if I wanted the car, on their loan terms. Otherwise it would go back on the lot. Naturally I refused, so as I was leaving, Gary approached me and told me not to "get crazy," and said if I paid a $199 loan processing fee (for a loan I didn't want!) all would be well with the world. They also tried to charge me for four years registration on a used vehicle (illegal where I'm from BTW). Bit the kicker came yesterday, when I looked at my credit report and found out there were tons of applications made in my name to auto lenders. Gee, great for my credit report, huh? And the funniest part of all? I also got a letter from Chase saying they'd approve the loan if Town & Country would lower the price by about $1000. They apparently had it overpriced and there wasn't enough "collateral" to make the loan viable. Oh, and if you go totheir website http://www.towncountryjeepchryslerdodge.com/index.htm you'll see a pic of three guys. The monkey in the middle is Terrence Kelly, the rude, obnoxious finance guy. This may be the only pic in his life in which he's smiling -- that, or he just saw his latest sucker leave his office. NEVER shop there, unless you're an investigative journalist doing a report on con artists. (BTW, the official Chrysler organization sent me a note saying they have -- and want -- nothing to do with them and have given me a survey to complete.) They can't help what happens at the independent dealerships, apparently.
