While driving to NY on 5 Aug 2013 for a 3 day visit, my 2011 Dodge Charger ABS & ESC lights came on while on the Belt Parkway Called Chysler hotline and they told me to take the vehicle to tcjeep in Levittown, NY. I arrived at the service department at 6am knowing I did not have an appointment so I wanted to be there when the service department opened at 730.
The sales consultant (Jim Ingrassia) told me he would keep the car and call me later Saturday morning when they find what was wrong. Received a call and the first thing Jim asked me was "what did you run over because your rear axle is broken." He said the cost of the axle would be $1150 since my vehicle was over the basic warranty (vehicle had 44,243) then for both sensors (abs & esc) cost would be $411 which included labor). Jim needed a decision then so he could order the axle and sensors so they would arrive Tuesday morning. Once parts arrived the job would take about 4 hours. Not feeling comfortable I called the Chysler hotline and asked it the axle was under warranty. The axle is covered under the powertrain (60,000 miles or 6 years) Jim called me back annd stated "the kindness of his heart he was not going to charge me for the axle.
At approximately 230PM my niece and I went back to tcjeep because we wanted to see where the axle was broken. Jim could not show us because the car was parked and not on a lift. I asked Jim if the car would be safe to drive because my wife and I had plans for Sat and Sun, and were going to head back to NC on Sunday around 4PM. Asked about a loaner car and Jim stated, "did not have any but were expected some back by 4PM and if he got one back he would call." No call. Called again Monday morning about a loaner car again and Jim did not have any.
Tuesday morning at 745am called Jim to see if the parts came and he he was not sure because they were still unloading the truck. Called back at 830am because my niece had to go to work and bring us to the dealership. Still did not know if parts were in. Arrived at dealership at 930am and Jim said they were still looking and my wife and I should go get breakfast and come back. Received a call from Jim at 1015am stating my car was ready and because of the situation we had since Saturday, he was not going to charge us for the abs/esc sensors. My wife and I was so happy that we took the keys and started home.
Something just did not seem right after driving for awhile that the car was ready in about 30 minutes vice the 4 hours Jim said it would take to repair it. Looking at the invoice (07685) there was no mention of the axle being repaired just the "left rear wheel speed sensor was replaced and this is a warranty goodwill repair for a loyal Chysler customer." At 615PM Tuesday I spoke to Lee at the Chysler hotline about the invoice to check and make sure Chysler was not charged for a rear axle. Lee called tcjeep and spoke to Jim. Jim told Lee he did replace the axle because it was not broken. Lee recommended when I get back to NC to have my mechanic check the axle. I did on Wenesday and there is no damage to the axle. Followed up with Chysler hotline3 and told them of the outcome.
I am afraid to see how many other customers Jim has tried to be dishonest with. If it was not for making calls to the hotline Jim would have gotten me to pay for an axle and sensors. The inconvience my wife and I had by not being able to use the car was uncalled for especially since the axle was not broken. We spent $190,00 in cab and LIRR fairs, plue my wife missing 1 days pay ($100)
Called and spoke to Fred Hoyt (dealership manager) on 7 Aug and provided him with the facts, After Fred spoke to Jim Fred called me backed. Fred stated everything was done right and I should be glad I did not pay for the sensors. However under the warranty of the power train (page 12) speed sensors are cover. Fred also mentioned that Jim never said the axle was broken, Additinal Fred stated that they do not provide loaner cars to non tcjeep owners.
Poor business. I guess tcjeep like to take advantage of out of towners when they are stranded, and see how far they can get away with lying to customers
