My son and his 9 month pregnant wife bought a home 13 months ago. It was brand new. They are two young people trying to realize the American Dream. This week their Trane Air Conditioning Unit went down. They called the contractor who installed the unit and he is not available for 5 days. (My daughter-in-law is due April 1.) A friend looked at the unit and has determined that the compressor has burned up. Good news from Trane-this is covered under warranty BUT Labor is not. The estimate is 500.00 in labor to replace this part.

What is wrong with this picture? He is going to have to cancel with the contractor as they can not afford the labor. We asked about getting a compressor but they only will supply that to an authorized Trane dealer. The dealer charges $75.00 to $100.00 per hour. They live in Fort Worth and it is going to be miserable this summer for them and the baby.

While the politicians are looking at the mortage crisis, they should also look at companies like Trane who boast big but don't take care of the consumer. I know who I won't be looking to buy a unit from next time we need to purchase a unit.

#11 Consumer Suggestion

Trane does not honor their warranty

AUTHOR: Steve - ()

POSTED: Monday, October 06, 2014

My  Trane  unit  was  about  2  years  old  when  it  needed  repair.   I  contacted  Tranes  "Consumer  Relations  Department"   and  asked  to  talk  to  someone  in  their  warranty  department.   The  answer  was   "We  don't  have  a  warranty  department,   claims  are  handled  through   the  regional  offices.   He  gave  me  the  address  for  the  regional  office  in  my   state  and  their  answer  was   that  they   were  not  able  to  fulfill  my  request  without  any  further  explanations.

To  me  it  pretty  looks  like  their  warranty   and  their  claim  "Nothing  stops  a  Trane"     is  worthless.   Next  time  when  my  A/C   has  to  be  replaced  I  will   tell the  technicians  to  install  any  brand  except   Trane.   Even  Haier,    (Made  in  China)   seems  to  be  better  than  Trane.

Typical

I used to work for Trane's Aftermarket Supply division and after seeing some of the complaints that came through I am glad I no longer work for them. I will tell you something; they can only supply the compressor to a person with an HVAC card/certification, it doesn't have to be a Trane/American Standard dealer. I used to provide warranty compressors to contractors all the time, but I worked for a Trane owned location - not sure if your site is the same. Basically a contractor would come in, provide model & serial numbers, and if everything was in order we provided a compressor (if it was in stock.)

Sorry you have to go through this, but after working for trane I learned from customers and owners alike that the product was not nearly as good as it was 10 years ago. Expensive, difficult to work on, and now - poor workmanship.

Normal for Trane

I worked for Trane for 2yrs. Trane quality and customer service has fallen way below customer expectations. Buy Carrier and have better customer service and superior equipment performance.

Warranties ARE Guarantees you moron!!!

AUTHOR: Ed - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 23, 2009

Wikipedia's definition of Warranty:
"In commercial and consumer transactions, a warranty is an obligation or guarantee that an article or service sold is as factually stated or legally implied by the seller, and that often provides for a specific remedy such as repair or replacement in the event the article or service fails to meet the warranty. A breach of warranty occurs when the promise is broken, i.e., a product is defective or not as should be expected by a reasonable buyer."

I keep hearing over and over, 'not a guarantee'. Well, you are an idiot. What does it mean then if it doesn't mean guarantee?? For too long you shiesters who come out from under your rock to try and prey on people just like this young couple, and I think this time TRANE is included in that scam. Trane engineering is an absolute joke, and that is why I would not ever, under any circumstance, buy, recommend, imply or even hint at anyone buying their substandardly designed 'product'. It's just about wringing money out of people. I have over 30 of these pieces of crap on the roof where I work, and have dealt with the "authorized TRANE professionals" for years now. What a load of crap! And believe me when I say that the new ones are even worse than the older units! I have had no less than 12 blower cages 'dissentigrate' and explode on these units, newer ones are more succeptable than the older ones. I started buying the blowers from a company in Indiana and rebuilding them ourselves. It went from an 'authorized' replacement of the whole blower housing of around $2200 to an inhouse repair of about $150. Nice racket, Trane! Especially when you 'designed' the housings not to be 'repairable'. Throw away junk!

think again

its too bad the compressor went out. things really dont seem to last as long as they used to. its not always the customers fault or faulty installation the compressor fails. i have had brand new compressors that were bad when they came from the manufacturer. there could be a number of different reasons it failed. 500 dollars for labor to change out a compressor sounds high to me also, much less 800 plus dollars. here in oklahoma we have been in business for over 30 years. we usually charge about 300 dollars at most including new filter-driers. there are many companies out there that will take advantage of people when they are in a bind. get more than one estimate.

Warranties are not gaurantees.....

AUTHOR: Laurence - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, January 16, 2009

It's funny how some consumers think that warranties are guarantees.... Warranties are covered for a specific amount of time.....in this case obviously 12 months, not 13. Trane compressor warranty failures are much less than 1/2 of 1% in 5 years. In addition, in Texas if the compressor had been under a labor warranty, calling someone other than the installing contractor voids the installers warranty. Do you know why Trane only releases warranty compressors to authorized dealers? It's called Quality Control. Trane knows the capabilities of it's authorized dealers, not any Wannabe that posseses tools and probable know-how. Also to remember failures are caused more often by outside problems and not as a result of defects in manufacturing, yet manufactures take the financial burdon year after year for at least the parts......well beyond the call of duty.

Do you know???

AUTHOR: Richard - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, May 05, 2008

I guess that you will never get another Air Conditioner or Heat equipment. Cause standard industry warranty is only 1 year labor and 5 years parts. If you want extended warranty then you can pay for it. It is not Tranes fault the compressor went out. I was probably installed incorrectly. So don't be placing blame on someone unless you know what you are talking about

This is not a rip off!!

AUTHOR: Mike - (U.S.A.)

$500.00 dollars for a compressor change out is cheap. My book price is 899.00

If Trane was not giving them the compressor, the cost would double.

The unit comes with a 5 yr part and 1yr labor warranty. Period.

How is this a rip off? Most compressors fail from lack of maintenance or from a incorrect refrigerant charge. Neither of those reasons are Trane's fault?

Either the person that installed the system overcharged it on "start up" . Or your relatives were not changing the filter or doing any other maintenance on the system.

Either way.

ITS NOT TRANE'S FAULT!!!!
