I was not ripped off or scammed by this company, but had them approach a friend of mine online.
I have 15 (almost 16) years of transcription experience and when "chatting" with the recruiter, I tried to ask "common knowledge" questions that any recruiter would have the answers to. However, several of my questions, the recruiter could not answer.
Don't let these people fool you into believing that with "little" or "no" training you can immediately work at home. OMG...495$ for the software? Just remember any reputable transcription company will provide you with transcription software FREE OF CHARGE.
I learned how to transcribe in a 6-month long medical assistant program. However, sometimes you have to pay your dues and get some experience under your belt before you can work from home. However, when you apply, you will be tested and the test will address whether or not you have knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, etc.
Just beware...if its too good to be true (and you have to pay for it) then it probably isn't true.

BEWARE OF TRANSAM! READ ON TO SEE WHY!
AUTHOR: Annie Oakley - (United States of America)
SUBMITTED: Saturday, May 01, 2010
I was emailed by KIMBERLY CARSON, THEN CARTON, from TRANSAM ASSOCIATES, INC.
I thought their website was a little (well, a lot) cheesy, but..whatever. I spoke with my FIRST "live chat person." I HAD indeed posted my resume' on several job sites, so I get things every day. From this company, I was offered A JOB...not asked to perform contract services for them. There is a difference. None the less, I started the process. I felt ok about things until the 2nd LIVE CHAT PERSON I spoke with. She repeated the same things as the first, which made me think, "OH NO! SCRIPTED!" In the mean time, I had explained that I use MAC products and was told their software was PC compatible. SO, I took money I didn't have and bought a very nice, used laptop. By the way, I asked (which you would NORMALLY do) the name of the person you are speaking with on the first LIVE CHAT. At first it seemed to be ignored, so once she finished telling me how they could finance the software, I asked her name again, so that I might "appropriately" thank her for her time. She typed back "NANCY BROWN." I subsequently spoke with LIVE CHAT a few more times, just gathering information because by then I KNEW it was completely WRONG. Today's "LIVE CHAT" person, after asking 3 times (conveniently) was also named..you guessed it...NANCY BROWN.
Now, if you STILL have questions on whether or not this is a SCAM COMPANY, after looking all over the net at complaints, I will tell you what else I did that I plan to confront them with on Monday morning, May 3, 2010. I went to the "dictation test" part and just started making stuff up. Nothing even REMOTELY like the diction "practice test" they send out. I could have gone p20q4w89ateoirugj[aep'sikdgjv'l,maw;lktj and gotten the same result.
SURE ENOUGH!!! This morning, I had a nice big congrats email saying they were ready to move forward.
I also had made a call and spoke with "BARBARA" who seemed taken aback that I would want to speak with an actual human. I merely asked her to tell me about the company, how much I could plan to make, (knowing this was a scam, but gathering facts) and finally she lightened up a little bit. She told me the company had business for 11 years. I find this hard to believe considering what they are doing is fraud. I had been told I would "need no training." "BARBARA" said that I could "GO LIVE" as soon as I passed two tests. I was looking for a viable job that I can work from home in addition to running a farm and am also working on a PhD. Boy did I feel stupid, but I felt already that a lot of WFH jobs would need a PC, so while I didn't need the extra expense, I made the purchase. I'm out that much. Thank GOD, I followed my gut and just never quite felt it was "ok" to make that initial down payment...which is NON-REFUNDABLE by the way. Yes, it is software and those products are generally not refundable but, what if you just sucked and couldn't make the grade. Why would ANY LEGITIMATE COMPANY have you invest in tools that you cannot use and never will? There should be TRAINING SOFTWARE or some means of "training" that is safe for all.
I can hardly wait until Monday to call this ALAN LOHRE or however you spell it, ask to speak to him, since the testimonials say that he helps you directly (supposed company owner) and let him know that I plan to file a complaint with the Florida Attorney General's office and how many people they have offered JOBS to, HIRED, got the big WELCOME ABOARD from the "live chat...all named NANCY BROWN" and the national recruiter can use two names as well as me make up some garbled up mess for a trial test and STILL get a WE WANT TO "INTERVIEW YOU" as soon as possible junk.
Please save yourselves a lot of time, MONEY and the belief that you REALLY have a job when it's plain and simply a ripoff. I HOPE THIS WILL SAVE YOU ALL SOME GRIEF! I TRULY DO! I'll report back any response I get. I imagine I will simply be hung up on. But I will get all the answers that I can if it will save even one more person from being ripped of. With the economy the way it is, it is repulsive that these people would take advantage of others in this way. They deserve to lose everything! I have read where folks have taken their last bit of saved money and given it to them. A class action suit truly needs to be filed. At the very least, the Florida courts need to shut these creeps down.
