I'm a licensed attorney in California.  To make some side money, I've been responding to several craigslist ads from people looking to hire attorneys on a 1099 basis for overflow work.  This week I received a phone call from a contract job poster who received my resume, asking me to come in today (Saturday, Aug 23, 2014) for a job interview in their Glendale office.

When I arrived, I saw there were several TFA employees milling about the office, along with some other people wearing name tags.  There was lots of signage and a greeter.  I thought that I must have come to the wrong place or maybe the office was having some kind of an event.  When I spoke to the receptionist, I introduced myself and said I was looking for Jasmine, the person I spoke with about the job interview.  The receptionsist said "we'll get to that.  What's your name?"  I gave her my name and she started writing it down on a name tag which she then handed to me.  Needless to say, I was very confused.  After a few awkward moments, Jasmine came out and walked me to her office.

I sat down and she proceeded to ask me about myself, the usual interview stuff.  I then asked her what kind of work I'd be doing.  She didn't answer my question, but only said that they're looking for attorneys because they're honest people.  I tried asking again what kind of work I'd be doing.  Again, she didn't answer my question.  She said that they wanted to "test my social skills" and show me a presentation and only then would she explain what kind of work I'd be doing.

I looked at her and calmly said, "I feel very ambushed right now.  You told me I was coming in for a job interview and now you won't even tell me what kind of work I'll be doing. And on top of that, you didn't tell me about any kind of presentation or 'test of social skills.'"  I kindly thanked her for the opportunity and left.

I came home and researched whether this kind of thing had happened to others.  It turns out that this "interview" is just a presentation where TFA sees if they want to hire you as some kind of financial services sales person.  I am appalled.  I responded to a job posting for contract attorney work.  Not to be a sales person.  I can't believe that these people would be so shady as to not be forthcoming with the nature of the opportunity and waste my time and gas.

Misunderstanding

AUTHOR: Financial Advisor - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, November 27, 2016

It is unfortunate that the originator of this post had such a negative experience. However, it is not fair that she posts such false inaccuracies about our company anonymously.

Transamerica Financial Advisors does not engage in bait and switch. We are an office of independent brokers and those brokers are able to interview and decide whom they would like to work with or not, including Jasmine. Speaking of Jasmine, she is one the top producers in the office and one of the nicest people you’d want to meet. TFA has been successful for many years, and is a part of Aegon, which is one of the world's leading providers of life insurance, pensions and asset management. The company’s roots date back to 1844, and to date have operations in over 20 countries. To read more on our organization click here: http://www.aegon.com/en/Home/About/At-a-glance/

When I was first invited to the office for an interview, it wasn’t for me at the time however, I did leave with some great financial information. A year later, I had a change of heart and began my own business with Transamerica because I made a decision to not be anyone’s employee again. It was the best decision I ever made.

No one that comes to our office is forced, nor are they tricked. We network, provide great information, and offer a business opportunity for those who are interested. Nothing more, nothing less. The opportunity to work with TFA is not for everyone, but I can personally say that we have helped to changed thousands of families’ lives.

Before anyone else posts inaccuracies, please do your homework first. Untrue posts hinder others from getting the truth because most would rather read and judge, than experience or seek information for themselves.

As I mentioned before, I am now an advisor and a client and I because of this company, I no longer have to ask anyone for permission to take days off, attend to a sick child or office politics. So this company has helped me to not only replace my income, but double it, plus I’m licensed by the state (as is everyone else here), so I guess it’s not a scam after all.

Thanks for reading!
