Hi, my name is Sam and I received a letter from TXCollect stating that I owed $107 on an AT&T wireless account that had been closed in 1999.

I called them and they said if I didn't clear it up it would go to collections. I was crtain the account was closed in good standing, and in fact, I have subsequently found a letter dated July 7, 2000 from AT&T on its letterhead which reads. (it was written to my mom)

"Dear Mrs. S:
As per our conversation, I have investigated all of your phone numbers. There is not now or has there been any kind of billing dispute for any of the following numbers: 718-318-XXXX, 718-634-XXXX 718-634-XXXX, 516-448-XXXX, and 516-721-XXXX. The wireless phone number 516-532-XXXX was voluntarily suspended on March 14th, 2000 as per your request due to the lose of equipment. The original activation date for that wireless phone was September of 1997 in you son, Samuel Schlesinger's name." It goes on to say I hope this information is helpful, blah, blah blah.

Needless to say, I paid the bill to avoid collections, but lo and behold, I went to buy a car for the second time in two months. back in August, my credit score was 767 and I had no problem financing a car at a great rate.

This week I went in and they re-ran the check. I had a listing from palisade collection for the $107 listed as in collections. it lowered my score 130 points to 637. I was furious and called TXcollect. they told me they have record of my payment and that it could take 60 days to be removed. I want to know how it got on my report in the first place since I paid it right after I got the letter.

I have set up a website at WWW.PALISADECOLLECTION.COM to find other people who have been affected. please pass this on in any posts you put up. I am organizing a class action against all the above mentioned companies. I have attorneys already researching this and gathering evidence. We will get justice.

#4 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Palisades is not TxCollect. We had a big account with them. TxCollect is crooked.

I used to work for TXCollect in their office in Central Texas. Almost every person that I spoke to said that they had never had an at&t account or any of the other accounts we were to collect on. First of all, Palisades Collections, is a seprate collection agency that placed some accounts with us to try to collect on. Palisades is not TxCollect. We had a big account with them. When someone called or we called and said that they wanted to dispute it, we were told to give them a number to the "dispute department" or transfer them to it, in which they would get an answering machine, leave a message and no one would ever call them back because from what I've observed and heard from supervisors, there is no real "dispute department". TxCollect is crooked. When I worked there we had probably 300 people or more working there, they are about to go out of buisness in my opinion because they now only have about 5 people working there. I know that all of you are very frustrated with your situations, but they have it coming to them and its not going to be pretty.
