My husband received a letter from TxCollect Inc which asked for payment of 339.71. It listed their client as Palisade Collection LLC who purchased the debt from ATT Wireless.

I called for information and was told that it was for a cellphone active from 12/16/98 to 2/21/00. Since the first date was the day my mother died unexpectedly, I clearly remember that I did not at the time have a cellphone from ATT or anyone else.

I told the young lady, who spent a great deal of time asking me what I was doing for Halloween, that I would call ATT Wireless for a bill / contract or something. She said she guarantees that they wouldn't have that information, that they wrote off the debt and don't care about getting this money. So I asked why I should pay someone else if the money is owed to ATT, I told her I wouldn't and no one in their right mind would pay a bill for something without proof. She then told me that there's the difference between us, she cares about her credit and I don't.

I will send a letter to them but I also plan to inform ATT Wireless and view my credit report.
