I moved to harlingen texas from st louis missouri and needed an electric company.  I chose txu energy and they requested $150 deposit and i signed a 2 year contract. even with a contract my rates increased, when i called to ask why they said it was because i went over a certain usage that month.  then after 1 year they contacted me and told me i needed to send another deposit of $140.  when i asked them why, they said it was because i was a late pay.  my service was never disconnected, and i paid after the date was due but never went over my late period.  i knew i was going to change carriers so throughout the next few months i would call them and inquire about my deposit and was always reassured i would get it.  then my contract expired, i paid my last bill and call to request my deposit.  they told me the deposit of $290 was used inthe last 6 months for my late fees... which i never received any bill indicating such charges even existed.this company is the worst and i have never heard of such a large company getting by when this type of service.  i hope the complaints will finally cause some action against them.... jlo harlingen, tx

JLO  were sorry to hear we lost you as a customer. TXU Energy actually has a more lenient deposit policy than state regulations allow, and we would be more than happy to explain more about it (http://www.txu.com/en/about/why-txu-energy/deposits.aspx) and how it applied specifically to your account if youd be willing to share your contact information with us at Lauren@txu.com.

I have had TXU for over 13 years and yes if you pay late on several occassions they will ask for a deposit.  They are providing a service not a pay as you go.  I was in the same situation, had to pay the deposit and have never been late since.  You can seek other providers but they do the same thing.  Reliant is one.

What part of the concept of a "Due Date" don't you understand?  When you pay after the due date you are late.  It appears that they didn't like your reputation of paying late and as a result required you to pay a higher deposit.

Of course if you think you are in the right then you need to contact the Public Utility Commission of Texas as they are the company that regulates them.  You can get to them through www.puc.texas.gov
