TYEE MOTEL & CAFE CHARGES ILLEGAL DEPOSITS THEN CHANGES THEM TO FEES WHEN YOU TRY TO COLLECT Coupeville Washington

  Stayed 1 night at Tyee Motel and that was TOO LONG!!  Asked to see the room first and was told that housekeeping had not cleaned the rooms yet (12 rooms and 12:30 in the afternoon), come back after 2pm.  When I checked in, I told the Owner that I had a service animal  and was informed that any animal, including service animals, had to pay a $25.00 deposit because of "Messes". Opened door of room and was hit with an overwhelming musty odor but, the room looked clean.   $105.00 including the $25.00 refundable deposit, (no receipt was given or offered even when I asked for receipt).  After a few minutes in room, the odor got stronger and I started looking.  I moved a chair and was shocked to see sooo much mold!  Building is a Cinder Block building with cheap paneling (glued over brick in places) and pulling away from the brick. Under the window, you could see where water had leaked and ran down wall, soaking the paneling. Glue had failed and paneling pulling away from the wall, MOLD. I complained and was told that "You don't like the room, Sorry but, we don't refund!"  So I was either out $105.00 or stay. I tried to stay, WRONG!!

Room was 90 degrees inside room, NO AC, NO FANS!!  Windows only open part way, no screen on 1 window (3 mosquito bites). I spent most of the night, Fanning the door to try and bring cool air into room. No help!  At 3:30am, it was finally cool enuf to sleep. 5:37AM, I was jerked awake to a loud crashing sound! Dump truck loading right outside my room!! So I gave up on sleep and decided to load everything and move on to a better place.
During checkout, I asked for my illegal pet deposit refund.  No surprise, the deposit is now a FEE  "That we don't refund!". Said it's illegal to change a deposit to a fee and owner said, "Doesn't matter, you don't have a receipt to show." What a horrid person!!  This may be how they do things in her HOME COUNTRY but, I think a horrible way to do business!!  Guess shre doesn't want or care about return customers.

This may have been a nice place before these owners but, now it is just an OLD, RUNDOWN, SMELLY, DUMP!!  Repairs are desperately needed.  A $50.00 seiling fan would have made this room a little (and I MEAN a LITTLE) better. Shoot, even a cheap table fan would have helped!!

Yes, I did order dinner at the restaurant.  Ordered the Sirloin steak dinner, medium rare.  The cook (had to be an untrained cook cause a Chef would not have sent this out as FOOD!) does not know Med-Rare from Well Done, baked potatoe was so over cooked it was hard, dried out and yellow on  the inside. Veggies looked like they came out of a Frozen Bag, the carrots had that Freeze-Dried look and were hard.  Took almost 35 mins to serve and it WASN'T because of the crowd!  3 tables with about 7 people that were finishing eating.

This may have been a nice place once upon a time ago but, now it's just a TIRED, RUN-DOWN, OVERPRICED, MOLDY DUMP!!

Oh, and the comments about the Friendly Staff must have been writen by the owners and not told to  the staff!  The Bleached Blond (with 2" BLACK roots) on the day shift was soo miserable being there, she relayed her misery with her rudeness and cold, curt response to even a simple "Hi".

Don't waste your money or time on this place when there are so many NICE places on the island
