UniCare Health Insurance Bollingbrook IL Refusing a refund of $1400 due to a "lost note"...excuses, excuses, excuses... Bolingbrook, Illinois

I joined UniCare in April 2009 with their PPO Platinum Plus individual plan for our family; me, 41, husband, 40, kids 8 and 9. We had a monthly premium of $282 that virtually COVERED NOTHING! It was worthless insurance. We were paying for everything out of pocket, plus the monthly premium. My husband, (like many of us out there these days) got layed-off at the end of August, so I cancelled the insurance after a 40 minute conversation with a rep, trying to avoid cancelling, but ultimately cancelled. She told me to handwrite a note of cancellation, including in the note, the policy number, date to be cancelled, my name and signature. I asked her if it needed to be typed or handwritten or any specific paper size, etc., she said, "no". I sent the note and they mysteriously lost it. Hmmmm. Imagine that. I have spent every waking moment for the past couple of months looking for jobs for both me (I have been out of work since May 2009) and my husband and didn't notice that UniCare had still been taking the $282 per month out of our account this whole time!!! Five months at $282=$1410!!! I have spoken to about 10 different people within UniCare, and have gotten 10 different answers. They even told me that they see in the previous notes that is states the "the customer is cancelling her policy". They have even told me that they "hardly ever lose any paperwork". Hardly ever lose any paperwork?!!! They are an insurance company!!!

We have two small children, I am an out of work Kindergarten Teacher and they would not give us a refund of money owed to us!!! We are on the brink of losing our home and all I get from UniCare is 10 different answers from 10 different people in the same department!!! If the left doesn't know what the right is doing, they probably DID lose the note. Who knows!! I might have to take this up with the Attorney General in order to get a resolution! UniCare is one of the companies that makes healthcare reform a necessary issue!! Health insurance companies are the biggest racket out there!

Don't EVER get "health insurance" (what a joke!!) with UniCare. They're all about THEIR bottom line. NOT about the customer or what's morally right!!
