Unique Custom Hardwood Floors Dylan Coulson Fraud, service paid for but not provided. Calgary Alberta

Dylan Coulson of Unique Custom Hardwood Floors was hired to refinish the pine floors in my house.   A deposit of $1000 was paid to secure a date for start of the work.  Promises were made that the process would take 4 days total.  Promises were made that the process would be dustless, and the end result would be beautiful.

On the start day, we had our house ready (and empty), but Dylan Coulson did not show up.  The job was started the next day.  Dylan and his employee stripped and sanded the floors.   The process was anything but dustless.   Dust filled the house.  Dylan claimed that his machines were acting up and the floor wasn't perfectly level in places.  Dylan rushed through the job, arriving late (based on his proposed start times) and leaving early.  By the 4th day, the floor was ready for product to be applied (oil based polyurethane).  

The first coat of product was applied and we inspected the result the next day.   The floor had lap marks and pooling marks, which Dylan promised would disappear after the final coat.  The floor was then quickly screened and a second coat of Polyurethane was applied.   

It was then that Dylan requested final payment.   He assured us that the floor would be perfect, and if there were any issues, his work was fully guaranteed and he would take care of it.  At this point the remainder of the $2200 owing was paid in cash. A receipt with everything outlined was provided.  

Once the floor dried and we could enter the house, it was obvious that the floor was anything but perfect.  The floor was covered with lap marks, areas of pooling, and missed areas.  Instead of applying the product "with the grain", it was applied "against the grain" resulting in a terrible floor. 

Dylan was contacted numerous times via telephone and text messages.  He promised each time to rectify the situation, to honour his "guarantee".  Appointments were set up to rescreen and resurface the floor.  Each appointment was missed, with an excuse.  5 appointments in total.  We Have now been living in an empty house for 4 weeks, waiting for the floor to be redone.  Dylan now no longer answers his phone when we call, instead allowing it to go directly to voice mail.  If we contact him via text message, he either claims he is very busy, or does not answer his phone.  

We recently did a search of Unique Custom Hardwood Floors and Dylan Coulson and determined that he has failed to honour his contracts in the past.  He used to own Woodchop Flooring in Vancouver, and has since changed his business name when he moved to Calgary.  Both Unique Custom Hardwood Floors and Woodchop Flooring have fraud issues associated with them. 

Be warned...do not deal with Unique Custom Hardwood Floors from Calgary, or with Dylan Coulson, or if you do, do no make ANY payments until you can verify the satisfactory completion of your job.
