I took a set of rims and tires to UPS shipping center to have them box up and ship out a set of wheels and tires to my buyer. I had the wheels and tires modestly insured at 1200.00 for fear of them getting damaged or something. Buyer calls me week later and ask were the wheels and tires are. I was confused because I look up the tracking information and it say delieverd??? I call the guy back and he adimately claims he never recieved the wheels and tires and wants his money back because he thinks I'm trying to rip him off. I then have ups give me a proof of delievry they can't... buyer never signed for anything UPS claimed they left it at the front door. I told ups "well the buyer didn't get the wheels". UPS said they'll check with there driver and run a trace on the wheels. UPS gets back to me about 10-days later and said the package was lost and they will be sending me the default amount on insurance. Default i asked??? UPS said when you don't insure the package the most they refund is 100.00?? Well then I got angry and called the UPS outlet that packed and shipped the wheels and tires for me. This ups outlet said B.S. you insured this package for 1200.00 he called them up and they even gave there own shipping outlet the run around. Now the latest is they were only tracking one of the three packages and that only one of the three was lost so they will need to run another trace on the last two packages. They still haven't admited I had 1200.00 worth of insurance. I wish to take legal action to collect on the insurance that i paid for as well as legal fees associated.

Your right it was taken to UPS partner. "pack and ship" in winter haven. I know what your saying about the reciever taking the package and claiming the never recieved it; but how does UPS protect itself, and me for that matter against such fraudulent claims. I suspected the same thing when it first happend... It wasn't until I contacted pack and ship and started the claim process that thing when progressively worse. First, it was traced the reciever was contacted and he claimed he never got the package. Apparently when you ship anything via UPS ground they don't get a signature. If it's insured for any amount above the 100.00 wouldn't it only make sense to require a signature from reciever?
After about 10-days UPS agreed that the package was in fact lost. They asked for me to provide the value of the wheels and tires via third party to prove there value and they would process the claim. UPS came back with a check in the amount of 100.00 and I was like what the hell is this? Pack and ship tells me that UPS only had the package insured for 100.00. 100.00!!!! I asked. I have a receipt in my hand that say's its insured for 1200.00. UPS then claimed that the box that was lost wasn't insured. I had three boxes and my understanding is that the entire shipment is insured for 1200.00 not one box for 100.00 the other two for 1100.00.
So then we start over from the begining one box is lost and the other 2 apparently made it to UPS. B.S. even if the other two boxes made it, how is the reciever going to drive with 2 or 3 wheels on his car!!! How did they determine one of the boxes were lost but the other 2 where deliverd? UPS is playing a run around game with this shipper and me for that matter.
However, you are correct in the fact that i need a receipt for proof of my claim and I infact do. This is the reason I'm sueing the shipper "pack and ship" currently in small claims court for the cost of the wheels and my shipping that was paid. Got a sworn affidavit from reciever that he has never had possesion of the wheels, and a copy of the fax from ups to the shipper with the shipper's ID number (av8252) and name on this paper claiming: "We regret that your shipment with UPS was lost or damaged.
In order to expedite the processing of a claim, please promptly submit the required information listed below." Which goes on to ask for value, shipping record, and a request for claim payment form. Also have the reciept that has a declared of value of... you guessed it.... 1200.00 anyone would like proof of anything I've stated I'd be more that happy to scan these various proofs of my claim for their review.

I see two items in your statement which are troubling to me. First, have you ever considered that your customer received the shipment, yet is claiming he/she did not? This is VERY common!
Second, it seems your shipment originated from an outside source, like a UPS Store, or other location. Not a UPS building location called a Customer Counter. If you claim you had $1,200 worth of insurance, simply produce your shipping receipt. DONE DEAL! The receipt will display your additional insurance over and above the mandatory minimum of $100.
I was with UPS for 14 years in a management capacity. Many years ago my wife shipped a $3,000 diamond bracelet through a Mail Boxes Etc. location. Despite the fact that I told her exactly what to do when shipping the item she took the advice of MBE and shipped it in a Next Day Air Letter.
Go figure! A jewelry box in a simple letter bulging at the seems screaming "Jewelry, PLEASE STEAL me!". Guess what? It was stolen. But I was able to determine exactly where and what time it was taken. The only thing I couldn't personally prove was who dun it.
Naturally my ridiculously stupid (ex)wife only insured it for $1,000, a claim that was automatically paid, but paid after I requested it not be paid. I wanted to sue the MBE location.
My point is this. When you deal with an outside vendor like MBE, or even a UPS store, which you need to understand is a franchise, not an official UPS location, at times people are not up to the same standards the internal company holds all direct employees to.
If you scan and produce a receipt here on your posting displaying the $1,200 worth of insurance, I'll believe you. If not, nobody should trust your claims.
