On April 12th 2007 I received a call from a company who called themselves United Processing, they told me they were calling to collect money from me for the payday loan I had received a couple of months before. The gentleman who I talked to his name is Shaun or Sean and the number he left on my voicemail is 904-685-5008.
He told me that someone was on there over to wherever I was to pick me up since I had not paid the loan back, and was accused of internet fraud. He started asking me where I was, if I was at home or at my workplace. I told him I was at work, and there was no way someone would be able to come and pick me up because I was at work and it would ruin my reputation.
He stated it didnt matter and someone was on there way. I panicked and asked him how much money I owed he told me 588 dollars. I told him I would pay this money now in order to protect myself. He said even if I did he would still have someone come to get me. I begged not to have that happen. He said to hold on and he was going to ask his supervisor if I was able to pay the money. He put me on hold and came back on the line and few minutes later and all of a sudden I was able to pay the money and whoever was coming out to get me, was called off. I asked him if I would be able to only pay half at this time because i paid the whole thing it would wipe out my bank account. He started yelling at me saying he was doing something nice for me and I was trying to give him the run around. So I said fine. I gave him my account information and a couple of hours later 588 dollars was taken out of my account.
I have contacted the attorney general in my area and they have sent a complaint letter to the company, and the response that was received said they have no records of who I am or who I talked to. I have a record of a confirmation number, and phone number to contact and my bank statement which on april 12th shows 588 dollars being taken out of my account to an association in Florida. I would like to get to the bottom of this and find out what is really going on. Thank you.

Oh Man I Hate to Tell you This

To anyone who has been called, there are a few things you MUST KNOW:
1. You may not owe anything at all
2. YOU CANNOT BE ARRESTED FOR DEBT. Even if you applied online for a payday loan and ended up not being able to pay, they would have to PROVE you had NO INTENTION of paying. And even then, they can only turn it over to the police. And trust me, the police are not going to arrest you for $600.
We are not a debt prison nation. No matter how much you owe, if obtained legally, you cannot be arrested.
They can, however, sue you. But that takes many months and many more dollars than what you loaned.
3. THEY CANNOT TALK TO YOUR BOSS ABOUT THIS. Or anyone else! This is a crime. You need to report them immediately under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
4. Send them a letter (get their address they HAVE to give it to you) stating they are not to contact you, or anyone else on the phone regarding this matter. Send it return reciept requested, so they cannot say you did not get it.
5. If they do call again, report them again. Under the FDCPA you can sue them for thousands of dollars for each violation. In federal court. This is not a toothless tiger.
6. Calm down. It is going to be ok.
7. To the woman who paid them, I hope you know for sure that you actually owed it. If you have any doubt, call your bank NOW. File a fraud report (they got you to give them your account number by duress, which is fraud).
8. AVOID PAY DAY LOAN LENDERS if you can. I know, times get tough. You would be better off borrowing from the mob. seriously.
9. Don't get scared, and dont break down on the phone, should you ever talk to them. These people are ruthless, moralless, scumsuckers. They will lie and say you owe money when you don't.
10. Telling you that you are going to be arrested, when you are not, is a crime under the FDCPA. File a complaint. For once, the government is on your side!
Best of luck.
