My wife was just scammed by a girl named "Jessica", who came to our door stating that, "she was in a contest to see how many people she could meet".  When asked more about this contest she said she was trying to win a trip to Hawaii.  My wife asked if she needed something to be signed to enter the contest.  At that point Jessica stated that she was selling books and magazines.  She went on to tell my wife about how her mother bought hard-covered books for her seven brothers and sisters.  That the hard-covered books were $5.00 a peice and that they would come once a month for a year.  My wife agreed to the purchase, and then Jessica asked for $51.00 (my math states that $5.00 times twelve months is $60.00).  My wife initially tried to give Jessica a check for $51.00, however Jessica stated that she received additional points for cash.  Eventually my wife gave her $20.00 cash and a check for $31.00.

After Jessica left our house, I began to ask my wife about the transaction... when she told me about the story above, I immediately took the receipt Jessica gave my wife and got on the Internet.  I found that ripoffreport.com reported that this was a scam, so I grabbed my wife and out the door we went to get our money back.  We found Jessica going into another neighbor's house, so I rang their doorbell and told them about the scam.  I asked Jessica for the money back, and she initially stated that she did not have the money.  She finally produced the money and I grabbed it out of her hands.  She said that she had to write void on my receipt.  I ripped-up the receipt, because it had personal data on it.  I then called the police and told her I was doing so... I also told her that she had to leave the community, because soliciting was not allowed.  My wife and I followed her for about ten minutes and then she went into the woods near our house.  The police arrived at the time and started looking for her.  We still don't know if the police found her... but, we did manage to get our money back.  And... make sure she does not scam anyone in our neighborhood.
