In the beginning, there was a car accident, roughly 60 miles per hour on a slick overpass. I walked away with what seemed to be a minor concussion, and no hospital visit needed. Headaches ensued for the next few days, eventually subsiding into a minor inconvenience when stressed. Then comes a lost driver with headphones on, she reverses her car into mine when stopped in an Irving parking lot, completely oblivious to her surrounding. Should not be surprised because she self mutilated her ability to be aware of her surroundings by wearing headphones when driving. Stress levels rised, leading to more headaches, and doctors visits leading to physical therapy to deal with muscle tension, and with doctor visits and physical therapy comes bills.

Enter United Revenue Corp, one of the only companies to have ever told me that I would be responsbile for their bad business sense. They are charged 3.95% on debit card/credit card transactions, and I was informed that I would be responsible for this fee of $33.73 for paying my debt in full. Incoming more bad business sense.

My response to the customer service representative, "Can you reduce my bill then and I will pay it in full, but I will not pay you a fee on the debt I owe."

There response is, "Well sir, we can do an electronic check, but you will be charged a dollar, otherwise you can send us check or money order in the mail."

I have a personal hatred against checks, there are too many rules and stipulations around writing checks that make me cringe when I have to write one. So my other choice, get a money order, mail it in or drive to Arlington and deliver it in person, both of which are extremely inconveniencing in a debt that was caused by a negligent driver.

Back to the point however, this is a collection company, who would rather not collect anything, than wave 40 dollars for credit card processing. In tough economic times, this whole philosophy seems to be horrible business practice, and their unwillingness to work with me to pay my debt in full, other than processing fees, I would be paying the whole debt at an unreduced rate. This to me, is what a ripoff is, a set of practices or goods, that would cause consumers to walk away, rather than part with their money.
