We used United Van Lines from a move from VA to OR in 2004. We then moved two years later from OR to KS.
We have our actual weight from VA to OR.
When we decided to move from OR to KS, we opted to jetison a family room and living rooms' worth of furniture, a library of books and their shelves, weight sets, our hot tub, washer, dryer, refrigerator, two televisions, and many other items.
When we inquired about our weight when we got the bill, we discovered they claimed our weight was 4,000 more pounds than our first move. Of course they didn't know we had just used United two years earlier! It's crazy to say that our moving weight was more than our first move, since we didn't purchase anything new while in Oregon.
After countless communications with Fry & Wagner, we entered into arbitration. This was useless since the moving company still refused to show us our weight ticket. The driver told us "he lost the weight tickets". If that's the case, then how do they know how much to bill us?
Of course they refuse to budge, so I'm forced to go this route - and many others. I tell everyone I run into about this story and tell them to stay away from United Van Lines.

In response to the allegations made by Mr. and Mrs. Dennehy, I would like to offer the follow facts regarding their relocation from Salem, Oregon to Lawrence, Kansas:
The shipment was originally estimated to weigh 19,500# by a certified representative of United Van Lines in Salem. The Dennehy's accepted the estimate and engaged the services of United for interstate transportation. On the dates requested, a Van Operator for Fry-Wagner, (An Agent of United Van Lines), provided the loading, transport and delivery services. The actual weight of the shipment, (certified weight tickets are available and were provided), was determined to be within 4% of the estimated charges. As the customer was not willing to accept the facts as supported, UVL and Fry-Wagner agreed to provide a weight reconstruction based by comparing the customer's actual inventory to that of the "Military / Industry Table of Weights and Depreciation Guide." Said reconstruction reflected the weight to be greater than that represented by the weight tickets by an additional 3.5%. As previously agreed, the customer was allowed to pay the lesser of the two.
As there is no basis or facts to the Dennehys allegations, I would ask that you voluntarily remove this posting from your site.
