Unitrin Specialty Insurance claim handling ripoff Dallas Via Louisville Ky Texas

I became a Unitrin Auto Insurance Carrier thru ABIA in St. Louis Missouri when we financed our first car. We had a nasty wreck 4 months after getting the car and it was declared a total loss. The remaining balance on the loan was 10,000. The NADA value was 6,500 and thats all the insurance company would pay out. Which was fine, we had gap insurance (thank god).

The company had us send paper work over and advised us to tow the car to a lot where they could claim the car after they recieved the title. They told us that by them taking the car we would recieve extra money on our claim, nothing huge, just a few hundred dollars. So we had it towed to a lot and signed the title over to them.

one month later, no payout had been made. We called the company, they told us there was something wrong with the title and they needed to send it back. it had been sitting on the woman's desk the entire time. So they mailed it back, told us both cosigners had to notorize it, and that was all that was wrong. We followed their instructions and mailed it back, again, another month passes.

We tug of war with the title for 4 months because they cant figure out what we need to do. We finally end up having to salvage the title and send it to them. They then tell us since the car has been sitting on a lot for 4 months the fee for storage will come out of our claim($1,000). I tell them that we will just keep the car because im sick of dealing with them and could hopefully part it out. So i think it's all over.

When the check from them gets to my bank it's only for 4,500. Not the 6500 they had quoted 4 months prior. I call them, and they say because we decided to keep the car they deducted the 2,000 and that this claim is closed. I asked her what she meant when she said it would only have made a difference of a few hundred dollars, she denied making this statement. I asked her if all their conversations are recorded like they on-hold disclaimer says, she tells me she has no further information on this matter and to have a nice day, and we should be thankful they covered the storage. We accrued the storage because of their neglect! So now Im stuck w/ a car payment on a totalled car. I should have called a lawyer while this was going on but now its too late. Do not use this company. They are assigned thru smaller businesses like ABIA, Safe Auto, etc.
