I had a lady "Amber" claiming to be from Universal Studios Orlando in Florida call claiming we'd won a trip, accomodations, and passes to Universal Studios Orlando.  She gave an endless account of what we'd won, including 3 days, 4 nights accomodations with an oceanfront view in our hotel room just outside the gates -- that's where I'd figured it to be a scam.  Anyone who's been to Orlando knows that any water outside of a lake is a 45 min drive at best.

They went on to say that we had a cruise, 7 nights in Daytona, etc. in our package and that it was good for a year, but could be flexible.  My wife and I played along with the game and we were soon passed off to another agent, "Stacey" who reassured us of all that we'd won and alll that was required was a $249 / adult ($498) processing fee.  She said that we could use our Visa which started with a "4" - every Visa starts with a "4" - to pay for it.  Eerily, she already had our mailing address and birthdate and stated we'd registered for this contest some time ago and we were one of the lucky 3% to be selected.  When I said that I don't give out credit card info over the phone, they repeated the credentials stating where they were from and all that I stood to gain.  I said they would have to find alternative means of doing any credit transaction and she became very frustrated and could not understand why I wouldn't want to give her my information.  That's when I hung up.

are you sure she said universal studios

AUTHOR: doesntlikebeingscammed - (United States of America)

Are you sure she said universal studios? The reason I ask is this... your entire post reads like a script from a company I worked for years ago. It was a small company (3 or so people) who had a contract with Ramada and Radisson resorts. This co. that I worked for was not either ramada or radisson, however our leading line was....This is so n so from radisson or ramada resorts. We would sell you a vacation telling you that you had been chossen due to an entry form you filled out to win a free vacation. The vacation would consist of a 4 days and 3 nights cruise to the Bahamas. Amber is what we would call a qualifer. She is to make the calls from the leads, when she gets you on the line and makes sure you have a credit card and can get a week off work, then she passes you to a closer(stacey). It was Staceys job to be as "pitbull" as possible and bully you into feeling stupid for not accepting such an "awesome deal". Have you seen the movie Boiler room? quite the same. Part of the script is "we can get those travel documents to you as soon as we process your credit card information.... Visa starting with a 4. Or Mastercard... whatever. The point is I dont even know if the people I sold Vacations to ever recieved anything for their money, however I can say I know Radisson and Ramada were definatly involved. I was at a meeting with Ramada in cocoa beach. The leads they get to get your name and number come from these little boxes at home shows or the nail salon or Baby expos etc. The sign on the box says "win a cruise to Bahamas". The fine print on the bottom of the bright colored paper says that you understand you will be contacted about a vacation offer if you dont win. I dont think anyone ever wins. Once you fill out that paper you will have multiple headaches. Those entries are used by one telemarketing company and when that co exhausts you they sell the form to another who uses it and sell it to another etc. You did the right thing dont give them your numbers. Be safe like I said the company could have been legit but I really doubt it. I hope this backs up your thoughts and good sense.
