Hello fellow ripped off former uop students. I like most of you saw uop as a chnce to earn my grtaduate degree in my spare time. After one class and a tuition bill that was over double what I had been quoted during the enrollment process I attempted to withdraw from the university. However I am still at odds with them over my account status.

I paid the amount that was on the statements they sent me now they say that due to some rule change I owe an additional $ 156.00! what's worse is if I don't pay it they are going to reportme to collections.

Something must be done to stop this and I would like to do whatever I can to see to it that no one else is victimized by this scam and for those of us who were we deserve to be able to hold these con artist accountable.

If anyone has any ideas as to how this can be done please contact me so that we can get the ball rolling.

Most On Line School's Are A RIP OFF

SCHOOL IS STILL NOT REAL
UOP is still not a real school. None of their credits transfer anywhere, except to maybe another one of those junk, fake on line schools.
All brick & morter colleges and community colleges offer on line classes now at reasonable state tuition rates. If everyone would just stop this Bull$#*& of attending these rip off places of higher education, you would not be getting yourselves in a financial bind, or having these rip off companies trying to ruin your credit. Then UOP, AXIA, STRAYER, CAPELLA, and who ever else Jon Doe for profit schools will close up shop and be gone for good!

These on line schools are a 100% rip off. I have taken a few on line classes through one of my local community college's and I am satisfied to know that its 100% accredited and transferable to any 4 year university, no questions asked.

Please everyone, stop giving yourself a heartache

sorry to hear that you were mis-quoted on the price. I guarantee that is not the norm, otherwise there is no way we would have over 350,000 students. We are also one of the lower priced graduate programs, so if you are still interested, look around at the pricing and compare. With so many counselors there are always a few who make mistakes, especially if they're new.

Interesting statistic: In the next 10 years some 50 million baby-boomers are going to retire leaving huge holes in the work force. People call me all day asking how fast they can finish their degree because some opportunity dropped in their lap and if they already had their degree it would mean a $20k - $30k raise. If you sat in my chair for one week, you wouldn't let anything stop you from finishing your masters. I guarantee you will qualify for much higher quality opportunities with your masters, and we do have one of, if not the best online program around - but even if not UOP, make sure you get it somewhere.

While you may not have been encouraged to "rip people off" Ron, the evidence out there contradicts the assertions you make above. The best example of the highly questionable UOP sales culture comes from a U.S. Dept of Education investigation on the school. In that report, investigators interviewed around 60 sales folks in CA and AZ, here are a few excerpts from the 40 plus page report.

"...the Corporate Director of Enrollment stresses the big dollars that come with high enrollments, he characterizes the compensation plan for recruiters as "smoke and mirrors" so that UOP can "fly under the radar" of the Department." (thats dept of Education)

A front page New York Times Article on the UOP quotes from the report which states UOP recruiting "systematically operates in a duplicitous manner." This means UOP recruiting had a plan to be deliberatively deceptive...

Hard to defend a business when you have high level executives making such claims....

Ron you have inconsistancies in your rebuttle

Please notice Ron that you said quote "There may be some manipulative or unclear things going on" and if they truely were not encouraged practices, wouldnt you think that they would be corrected as soon as attention was brought to them?! Be honest with yourself. Thousands of people have the same problem, and complain about it in the same way, the same stories about the same lies. The problem is not that we didnt do our homework sir, the problem is that we DID. You cant be a company with a large base of bad seeds and no ambition to change that fact and still be considered ethical.

And even if UOP never intended on ripping people off, and that it was a choice of the individuals who work for the company, there are still folks out there like you receiving a paycheck and insisting the "world is still flat," simply so you wont lose your job, while the people who are in the most need get stomped on by trusting your company too much. You get paid, the consumer goes into financial and eductional ruin. Sounds fair to me. So go ahead continue to defend the company you work for :) I'm sure you have 3 little mouths to feed too, and I would hate to deprive you of a job that would make it possible to feed them.

For everyone who has been ripped off by them I will be starting a group on My Space as well as many other blog sites, just look for the group name "uop_victims"

I agree with the previous posting that this sounds to me like yet another example of simple misunderstanding. I work here and I am impressed at the effort expended to thoroughly disclose things in a very above board and up front manner. Despite these efforts and very clear explanations in the online application procedure, many of the issues with tuition and financial aid are complex and hard to understand. I am amazed at how commonplace it seems to be for people to simply assume that if they do not understand it, it must be due to a deliberate effort on the part of U of p to deceive and rip someone off. I have absolutely never seen this to be the case among those I work with. this institution consistently strives to operate at the highest levels of integrity and ethics. My observation has been that any violations of those principles or practices that are "shady', particularly in the area of disclosure, are dealt with and not encouraged.


There may be some manipulative or unclear things going on, but I assure you that is not what is encouraged around here and it certainly is not an attempt to deceive and rip people off as so many of the complaints I see are implying. These are complex issues that are sometimes not fully understood even by the employees who are supposed to be the ones explaining it. That is an issue of poor customer service, but not intentional ripping off. UOP is a diploma mill.. but this report is BS

1st of all, I would NOT recommend UOP to anyone who isn't already at a job, and who simply needs a degree or more credits (from an real-life accredited university) to get PROMOTED -OR- for those who simply want to breeze through an undergraduate program to start on a Masters program ELSEWHERE.

That is what UOP is good for.

Ok, now about this complaint.

When you signed up for a class at UOP you have paperwork and OR at least have it written in your hand/course book how much classes are. You also have the date you took the class. So its impossible for UOP to just up and charge you "double" for a class. I'm not buying that for one minute.

If what you say is true (which I find it hard to believe, even though UOP is historically horrible with paperwork), contact your nearest attorney, prove that you have all your ducks in a row, and successfully sue UOP for mis-charging you. If UOP simply charged you double and you have PROOF.. then its an open and shut case.

If you're truly on the up & up, then you'll successfully sue for whatever you're due, plus court cost(s).

I think there is more to your claim than what you let on...
