I would like to state that I agree with some of the other consumers. My problem is that I am going through some issues and I have just started with the school. I have almost finished with my first set of classes and I have been having problems with my financial aid. The first few times I filled out my information, I went along with the guidance counselors on filling out my paperwork. Now I have finally gotten my loans approved and disbursed, there is an ongoing problem with my FAFSA. With prior experience, I already know how to maneuver and find out when disbursements are supposed to be made as well as when disbursements are made to the schools I've attended throughout the years. The latest problem is stupid because I wasn't married and filed head of household and after submitting numerous copies of divorce decrees, and marriage licenses and tax returns, they keep coming up with erroneous information that I didn't file appropriately on my taxes in the year of 2006. I don't know what is going on but the last time I called in, one of the counsellors insinuated that I was black by telling me that I didn't need to go and get Johnny Cochran for representation. My ethinicity has no relevance to giving me my Pell grant. I haven't even received my award letter from the school yet because they keep saying that they are still processing my paperwork. From previous schools, I usually received my Pell grants first. I know it hasn't changed that much just because I chose to study online out of convenience to me and my family. I have researched and have estimated my Pell grant to be between 2100-2500 which I should have received already. I do feel that I am about to be scammed. Any help anyone before I get messed up like the rest of you all.

Confused but have an answer

AUTHOR: Madconsumer - (U.S.A.)

I am currently a student at Axia online, I too was very impatient about my remaining balance from my loan dispersment. I have to admit their finacial department could use tweeking, but I did get my remaining loan balance back while I was in my second block of courses. As you are in their courses you will notice the school will take their time to get you stafford loans and not give you the remaining balance untill you pass the couses you were awared the money in.
At least that is what I have noticed, they have not shown me a written rule about that information, it's just to easy to notice a week after I passed I finally recieved my funds.

Stop, Do Not Do Any More Classes!

AUTHOR: Jonid - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 09, 2008

Hi Odumnothin:

You didn't say which program or school, Axia or UOP you are enrolled in, but the advice is the same. Stop.

These schools are very very expensive for what they deliver. There are many other alternatives available for online schools if that is what attracted you to the UOP racket in the first place.

In all likelihood your local in-state colleges and universities will offer many if not most of your degree programs online at a fraction of the cost. If you are able to actually attend on-sight classes, you can really find some savings.

Keep in mind, the UOP/Axia degrees are not respected, yet they are far more expensive than most programs. There is simply no reason to go into debt to the tune of 30k to 50k when you can receive a more respected degree for a fraction of the cost. In addition, at another school you might actually learn something, and that is what really counts.

Get out now, before you sink any more money in the rat hole, and good luck.
Joni
