Since I started attending UoPHX I have had several things happen. For starters, they changed the policies without informing the students and even my academic advisor was unaware of a change. Example: When I first started with UoPHX the instructor was to give you weekly feedback in a timely fashion, immediately after your first week of class was complete and you would get feedback after each week. I had instructors that would either give no feedback or feedback after you completed the second or third week. When I called my academic advisor with this concern she informed me that she thought that the instructor was to give weekly feedback, but after several complaints from students, she found out somewhere along the line UoPHX changed this policy.

Tuition Costs: These costs continualy increase, last I recall it was $1320 per class. I had to withdraw from a class for personal reasons and I withdrew the second day of class. I did not log on to class, I called my advisor and sent an email. They billed my for $350 and a $30 late fee because they tried charging my account, and unfortunately, those funds were not in the available account they tapped into. When I called to inquire about this my financial advisor said even though I withdrew on the second day they had to charge me for a week and they charged me for the online resource. The online resource is equal to purchasing books but cost $74.00. You have to log on to their system, download the file, and print it. You, the individual, are responsible for the cost of the paper, ink and the time spent printing out a book (which could easily be over 500 pages).

Online resource: When I disputed the online resource and said I'd really rather have a book, UoPHX said that was not possible. The day class started, I went down to the bookstore, obtained the book and used that BUT was still charged for the online resource.

The team concept, well, let's say most students are not fond of this "concept". I understand they are trying to teach you to work in a virtual environment but all of us attending UoPHX already work and deal with this on a day to day basis. The team concept does not work because of the time issue. You cannot work at your own leisure and you must log in 5 out of 7 days and each instructor will tell you how many posts you must do each day. For example, I had to post three significant posts five days a week. It became crazy! If you had 20 people in class, posting three times each day, you were reading approximately 57 emails a day and adding your own. In addition to all the other work. I understand you have to participate but that was ridiculous AND the instructor determined if your post was long enough, some wanted two paragraphs per post!

Also, one night (out of many) but on this particular night I had an assignment due. I logged on about 6:30pm and could not get into the classroom. I was online with tech support from 6:30:pm until after midnight and I called my instructor, sent him an email and even sent the assignment to him via regular email. The problem had to do with the UoPHX security not telling their tech support they made some changes. Anyways, the instructor took 50% off the assignment for being late.

One other thing but I have other stories, when I asked for financial assistance for college tuition my financial advisor was useless. When I tried to pay them the $350 for withdrawing from that class, I asked if I could do it in installments and they told me NO!! I was sent to a collection agency and I am working with them and sending them monthly payments.

I am only seven classes away from getting my B.S. in IT and just could not take it any more. I am not opposed to hard work or challenges, as I matter of fact I thrive on them, but UoPHX was just putting obstacles in front of you that had no need to be there.

Would I recommend this school to anyone? No, but it is still your choice. Consider the tuition and how it increases and they are unwilling to help you with finances. It is not at your own leisure. Some of the instructors were good but in the last year I had some that refused to work with the student. All in all, I had some classes that I really learned from, the instructors were great and the workload intense and that was all good but the bad outweighed the good in this case.

Good luck.....
